Re: April 2021 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

9 of the Top 10 states by passenger vehicle registration volumes posted degrowth in FY2021 on an annual basis. Vehicle registrations indicate vehicles delivered to customers by automobile dealers and are a key indicator for retails.

Re: April 2021 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

For all that appreciation and admiration that the Ford Figo has in our forum, the poor car sold at a shameful one unit the entire month. What's worse? It's not the first time it sold 1 unit all over the country in a month.

What makes the Figo less desirable than the Datsun go?!

Sheesh!!

Yes kind of makes me wonder if all these so called Ford fans are just paper and online poll fans who will recommend a Ford to everyone but end up with a Maruti or a Hyundai themselves

Re: April 2021 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Apr '20 was a forgettable month for the car manufacturers, and thankfully that's not the case this time, at least they've put some despatch numbers on the board though, the numbers have gone down by circa 10%.

Nothing significant of a month since there aren't any major highlights apart from:
1. Honda City picking up its sales
2. Downfall of Figo - No idea about Ford's strategy
3. Korean Siblings still stay strong
4. Tata's slight decline in sales.

The trend is expected to be the same for May 21 as well, due to multiple lockdowns and how the 2nd wave has devastated the country.

Praying for everyone's safety! Stay safe!

I am not sure. The sentiment is bad and mood is sombre. I don't think people will rush to showrooms to order cars once lockdown restrictions are relaxed.
Also skyrocketing fuel prices. If demand continues like this I will be perplexed.
But it will be good for the economy.

Re: April 2021 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

1. In a month that was severely affected by Covid sales fell by over 35k over the previous month slowing the brilliant run we had seen this year. This month will be a major bummer with Maruti shutting down its plant for much of the month
Overall market shares in % have been stable

2. If we take manufacturers aside and look at only models, though the Wagon R is at No 1 a good 2 decades plus after it was released in the Indian markets, the Baleno/Glanza is a close second with the Swift being a close third!

3. In the super-hot compact SUV (4M) market, though the Venue stood No 1, with Toyota selling decent numbers of the Urban Cruiser, the Brezza/Urban Cruiser model still hold the top spot with around 23% of the market. The Hyundai group (Hyundai + Kia) still rules with a third of this market

4. In the Mid Sized SUV market the Hyundai twins of Creta and Seltos maintain a stranglehold of close to 90% of the market. Only a decent show the VW twins of Skoda Kushaq and VW Tiguan can make a difference in the months to come

5. In the compact sedan market, Maruti rules with it's Dzire holding a good 60% of the market

Well, Tata Altroz MOM sales actually declined and there could be despatch or inventory build up issue with i20, even then, Altroz emerged as a strong contender ! Kudos !
Imagine the situation when the Altroz is equipped with a good auto box. It will come closer to the Baleno

Re: April 2021 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Only monthly sales chart with no monthly YOY sales comparison due to 0 sales in 2020 April! Hope this doesn’t happen again!
And among the slow sales of other manufacturers, Honda City posted substantial MOM growth close to 300%!(it indicates that probably the lower sales in March was due to semiconductor shortage)

Re: April 2021 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Tata despite losing number must be having last laugh. Look at Harrier + Safari numbers at 3226. Fairly outselling MG Hector at 2147 by a big margin. Compass does not even stand close at only 846. If they come out with AWD and some fancy features e.g. Heated seats, Lane detection etc, they will be rocking this segment.

Re: April 2021 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Current Year Sales Analysis : Calendar year 2021.

- Highest growth came from Maruti Suzuki in terms of volume. Sees a volume growth of 24,866 units from Maruti Suzuki. However, Maruti lost the highest market share.

- Hyundai, Mahindra, Toyota, Renault and Honda have had marginal gains of less than 1% market share.

- Tata stole the show with a 4.04% staggering gain in market share TY year YTD over LY YTD.

- Mahindra falls to the 5th Spot behind Kia.

- Exciting times ahead with slew of ne launches in the pipeline -Maruti having it's new car launches shortly with Celerio and the much hyped Jimny towards the end of the year. Mahindra with the much hyped XVU700 round the corner.

Skoda and VW with total of 4 car launches, but all depends on how the pandemic pans out and controlled.

Re: April 2021 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

It's sad seeing Hyundai i20 losing its footing. 3 of my friends have selected Balenos instead of i20; they might have gone for the Elite i20.

Renault Triber sales too feel low compared to the utility the car provides.
