Here are some more to the analysis of July sales/dispatches.
Auto Industry post second wave of the pandemic, lifting up many restrictions and with the pent-up demand, does well in dispatches/sales for July.
The production was ramped up significantly in July 2021 to serve the pent-up requirement and also prepare for the upcoming festivities. August marks the beginning of the festive season with Onam (biggest festival in Kerala) and Varamahakshmi (celebrated in parts of South India). The festivities will continue with Ganesha Chaturthi in Sep'21 and so on. This has led to adequate stocking levels across the channel leading to a M-O-M growth of ~ 15%.
- The market leader Maruti Suzuki marked a drop in Market share to 45.4%(Y-O-Y) while growth increased by 36.8%, while the industry grew at 48.9%.
- Hyundai too sees a market share drop to 16.3 %, while its sales increased to 25.8%
- Tata continues to perform well and registers a market share of 10.3% while it grows to a massive 101.1% (Y-O-Y) and retains its well secured 3rd position in terms of sales.
- Mahindra retained the fourth position and sales increased over 90.7 percent YoY
- Kia India volumes grew at 76.6 in July 2021 and was pushed to the fifth spot in the ranking table.
- Maruti Suzuki’s products and its Innova sales help Toyota to overtake the likes of Renault, Ford and Honda to place itself in the sixth spot. Innova alone contributed to over 46 percent of Toyota's sales in July 2021.
- Renault sold 9,787 units of its cars in July 2021 compared to 6,422 units in the same period last year. The majority of sales for Renault come from Kwid, Triber, and Kiger.
- Honda could manage sales of just 6,055 units in July 2021. The New City has also been supporting well to the OEM and contributed near to 60 percent of the OEM's sales in July 2021.
-Škoda, VW, & FCA ranked 12th, 13th, and 14th respectively. Škoda India July 2021 sales shoot up 234% YoY backed by the launch of Kushaq.
Škoda crossed the 3k sales figure after 108 months / 9 years!
Highlights of Jul-21 dispatch figures:
- Maruti’s WagonR continues to be India's best-selling Car for a repeat performance as last month recording a 69 % Y-O-Y growth. WagonR CNG had emerged as the best-selling CNG car in India too.
- 8 of the top 10 best sellers were from Maruti Suzuki while Hyundai and Tata were at 5th and 9th with Creta and Nexon completing the top 25 for July-21
- Hatchbacks dominated with 9 models in the Top 25.
- SUV’s matched the hatchbacks in terms of models and MUV’s with 4 in the top 25 best seller list.
- Sedans had only 2 offerings in the Top 25 and were Sub-4m Compact Sedan - Maruti Dzire & Hyundai Xcent.
Largest segment (volumes) – Hatchback, highest Growing Segment -Compact SUV
- The top 9 models of hatchbacks contributed to 1.05 lakh units of sales in July.
- Hatchbacks and SUVs dominated with 9 models each in the Top 25
- Compact SUV segment contributed near to 20% of the passenger cars sold in India for July 2021. Also; the segment recorded one of the highest YoY growth 133 percent in July'21 vs July'20.
Top Manufactures for the Month:
Maruti Suzuki:
- The star performer of Jul-21. Growth is phenomenal (considering a low bas), but loses market share. Expect this to change as a slew of upgrades and new launches are in the offing.
- Controls 10 in the top 25 and has top 8 in the top 10 best sellers for June.
Hyundai:
- Hyundai had 5 models in the Top 25 and 1 in the top 10.
-Creta retains as Hyundai’s best-selling model and India’s No.1 SUV
TATA Motors:
-Tata Motors has 3 in the top 25 and Nexon is the best-seller for Tata and recorded dispatches of over 10k units
-Tata has been able to stabilize at the No.3 position and is now maintaining a significant lead over Mahindra/Kia.
Mahindra:
-The other homegrown Indian MNC Mahindra too had 3 models on the list (Bolero, XUV300 & Scorpio).
Mahindra was also able to hold its fourth position in manufacturer rankings in July.
For the coming months the Auto segment could see muted volumes, this time due to the acute shortage of semi-conductors.
