Palio 1.1 to get 16 valves & 1.3 MJD by end of year

The current Palio 1.1 is a 8 valve engine and is highly underpowered, therefore Fiat is planing to upgrade to 16 valves, which will increase the performance and efficency according to Fiat.

Also the 1.3L Fiat Palio D will be launched some time soon. Fiat will enjoy the cost benefit for the engine since MUL has already made a vendor base for the engine. Other companies to use the same engine would be Tata & Chevrolet including Fiat & Suzuki(which is already using it in the Swift and will soon follow up with the SX4 DDIS, yes SX4 DDIS is coming soon)

So suddenly FIAT wakes up to the fact that the Stile 1.1 is underpowered. Why didnt they put the extra 8 valves earlier? wagonR has 16 valves since ages.

Though 1.3 Multijet is a good news. If priced competetively, may just give Indica/Swift a run for its money.

So they are going to have a Palio 1.1 8 valve, Palio 1.1 16 valve, Palio 1.6 16 valve and a Palio 1.3 MJD. Are they also going to have a Palio 1.3 MJD VGT? Seems like a pretty good variety to choose from. And What about a interior upgrade for God's sake!?

Wonder how the average Indian car buyer will take to two choices of engines with the only difference being in number of valves. Wouldn't the buyer say, why should I pay Rs. x,xxx more for JUST 8 more valves?

BUT, the announcement of the multi-jet is great news. The Palio MJD will be a wonderful hatch to have. Now we are talking Fiat!

Amit i think Busa is talking about replacing 8 valve Palio with 16 valve Palio. Its like first downgrade the engine from 1.2 to 1.1, then try a little upgrade from 8 valve to 16 valve. lol

Good Fiat. At least, you have figured out that 1.1 is underpowered. Why dont you "suddenly" realise that the interiors of all your cars of 178 platform are bad?

1.3 MJD is a welcome and a logical step. BTW, why am I talking of logic and Fiat in the same breath?

With all these wonderful combinations coming up, i hope they would open up their own showrooms & service stations instead of being a meek tenant with TATA.

Downgrade was to meet new govt concessions. the extra valves will help regain some of the lost power, without increasing displacement. A great idea!

Yes but couldnt these two things had been done in one step? Next they may give Brazilian interiors within a few months. Imagine the plight of Stile 1.1 buyers who bought it recently.

So have they mentioned when this upgrade to 16 valves for 1.1 is being done?
Btw the 1.6 is already 16 valves isnt it?
But yes - imagine those who have been toying with the idea and not bought the 1.1 !( btw some one mentioned here in another thread that 3 1.1s have been booked here in Banglore). If they do this upgrade too soon - thats a "definitely maybe" cheating to them folks.! :(

Indica will be using the same engine. Imagine Taxi drivers with 1.3L 75bhp engine with 190NM of torque, plain stupidity to put the same in the Indica i would say.

Actually Tata & Fiat have quite things in common between them, firstly sharing of platform, all their cars having the same head lights, poor A.S.S, Retro interiors and lastly making engine size smaller (The Xeta 1.2) and then adding 8 more valves to their engine(1.4L 85bhp petrol in the Indigo now produces 100bhp) No wonder they get along so well as partners.

The 1.3 VGT is for the Linea and the Grande Punto.

The Palio 1.3 MTD availability will be brilliant. This battle with the Swift 1.3 MTD will really be looked forward to.

Btw- would this mean Maruti and Fiat MTDs can be serviced in the other's garage ?!

The engines maybe. Not the cars.

Looking at the FIAT, I think MJT would be available by mid 2008 and then only in Punto and Linea.. FIAT itself murdered Palio long back... To avoid any conflicts of products they should stop Palio (I know.. I am big fan, lover of this Palio) and concentrate on premium hatchback market... and let TATA play with Indica in the lower segment.. Put Linea in competition with City and likes.. These are my personal opinions...
