Re: March 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

I see Hycross missing from the sales breakup chart. Or is that added to Crysta?

HECTOR & + : 4105
ALCAZAR : 2519

Please note, Harrier and Safari numbers are more than Hector and Hector + as of March 2023. Harrier and Safari with complete ADAS features in all variants and other updates (facelift) is not yet released, only 1 variant of ADAS features of Harrier twins is released in top end spec XZA+(O). So we should wait and see after the complete ADAS features are released in other variants with facelift as well as petrol, EV variants. Mostly these updated cars would be coming in Q4 of 2023 or Q1 of 2024.

After a long time, the Verna is back on top of the mid size sedan segment! If Honda isn't worried now, they might as well never be worried again. Who knows when they'll pack their bags.

I think the Germans are doing well enough, their sales are comparatively low because they target a relatively niche group of buyers who want enthusiastic performance.

Wishful thinking: When will Maruti property update the Ciaz?

Probably the result of the Alto 800's demise.

Re: March 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

I feel now that the world has moved over to BI from simple graph and tables, T-BHP can have a dedicated page for Auto Sales Analysis. A lot of flexibility can be given to viewers in interms of drilling through the data for specific models.

Happy to help create a dedicated page for Car Sales Volumes which may update MoM.

Re: March 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Based on the prices of the VW SKoda offerings I think they will be happy with the current sales figures. Bigger profits per unit, would it not indicate? Please correct me if I am wrong.

Tata is doing well while their after sales still has a long way to go. Hope they don’t go the same way as post the Indica success.

Glad to see good numbers from Mahindra. The design of the XUV 700 has aged pretty quickly for me, but the Scorpio N is a fantastic design.

Wonder why Tata is not exporting when Mahindra has made a name for itself abroad already.

Wish SKoda would bring their European ICE models to India even as CKD. With the current prices, I’m sure they would still only be slightly overpriced, just like their India 2.0 products.

India’s Top 30 utility vehicles in FY2023:

Quote:
5 best-selling models have powered the utility vehicle segment’s record sales of 2 million units; while 11 compact SUVs lead in terms of overall numbers, 16 midsize SUVs reflect growing demand and 3 MPVs showcase their continuing value proposition.
Quote:
India’s passenger vehicle (PV) industry has closed FY2023 with record 3.89 million-unit sales, an increase of 20% over FY2022. Powering this growth, even as demand for mass-market entry level hatchbacks remained tepid, is the utility vehicle (UV) segment with all-time high sales of 20,03,718 units, up 35% year on year (FY2022: 14,89,219 units).

With this big number, the UV share of the overall PV segment (cars, UVs and vans) has touched a new high – 51.50% of total PV sales, beating FY2022’s 48.51%. Average monthly UV sales in FY2023 were 166,976 units or 5,489 units being sold every day from April 1, 2022 through to March 31, 2023.

A sudden spike in Hilux sales figures. Is it because of the Toyota lease scheme?

Sounds interesting! This way users would be able to do their own slice and dice of the sales figures . Would be glad to help in creating this dashboard!

Re: March 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Tata Punch and Nexon both belong to C1 segment it seems. Is this correct categorization?

I feel Punch should be in B2 segment.

I believe Tata beat Hyundai in retail sales (dealership to end customer, FADA data).

But in dealer dispatches (factory to dealership), Hyundai beat Tata if I understood right.

This disparity will always be there. But I feel that as a consequence, it may show up as Tata beating Hyundai (or narrowing the lead) next month in dealer dispatches too.

Re: March 2023 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

With the sales increasing, I imagine a bunch of product pricing people sitting in a dark corner of a room at Toyota/Mahindra HQ, wearing a cloak and rubbing their hands with glee and an evil smile.

The prices are too low and people have started buying again, time for a rude awakening
