Yes, it is genuine. Have used it for my i20 nearly a year ago. Choose the option to get it fitted at your nearest dealer, saves time.

re: HSRP mandatory in Karnataka | EDIT: Deadline extended to March 31st 2025

Does anybody know how to get one for manufacturers discontinued in India (Ford, Chevrolet, Mitsubishi etc)? I tried bookmyhsrp - it didn't show any dealers in Karnataka. I also tried makemyhsrp - it said no dealers, and to email them. I sent an email, but haven't received any replies.

re: HSRP mandatory in Karnataka | EDIT: Deadline extended to March 31st 2025

I tried to order the HSRP for my Suzuki Access 125 2W. The siam.in website redirected me to https://getmyhsrp.com/, but once I entered the vehicle registration number, chassis & engine number, it errored out saying the

Quote:
Vahan Status - VEHICLE MAKER NOT FOUND SUZUKI MOTORCYCLE INDIA PVT LTD for Chassis Number XXXXX of KA03XXYYYY
If I enter a wrong chassis number or engine number, then it errors out saying vehicle not found, so whatever details I am entering is correct, but something wrong in the backend it appears.

HSRP mandatory in Karnataka | EDIT: Deadline extended to March 31st 2025-screenshot-20230824-11.36.51-am.png

In my case, Makemyhsrp is actually Celex which is a authentic Kolkata-based authorized HSRP vendor.

Hoping for the best. Just received an email update that my HSRP is in production.

re: HSRP mandatory in Karnataka | EDIT: Deadline extended to March 31st 2025

I have a question on the HSRP, a lot of roadside Number plate vendors promise exact replica of HSRP, even fitting with Rivets as Original.

1. So What is the difference if I take the new HSRP from some random shop Vs Official Dealer ? These are visually very similar but cannot tell a difference apart.
2. Is the HSRP also updated somewhere online ? I mean the Vehicle registration number is mapped to some plate number ?

Some guidance here will be great.

Yes, it is genuine. I could book and schedule fitting for my Hyundai i10 through this site without any hassle. Cost was INR 778.80

re: HSRP mandatory in Karnataka | EDIT: Deadline extended to March 31st 2025

I had used https://www.siam.in/ for ordering HSRP plates to my dad's and uncle's car in Bhubaneswar/Cuttack, Odisha. SIAM actually transfers to appropriate vendor and dealer based on vehicle manufacturer. It still works and redirects my request, allows me to select a dealer and appointment time for fixing.

Seems that mapping is not yet in place for Karnataka. That is the reason why SIAM site is not able to redirect our request. We will have to wait for some more days to have this ready.

Odisha govt/RTO had put a time line of 9 months for old vehicles to have HSRP fitted to avoid the rush. Each month had a deadline for the last digit of vehicle registration number.

I hope Karnataka RTO follows the same best practice to avoid the heavy rush.

Any idea of how this affects out of state vehicles in Karnataka? Is this only for KA registered vehicles?

These are basic questions - best to quickly read up a bit on the HSRP mechanism.

In summary, there is a unique code allotted to each HSRP and updated online on the Vahaan database. Additionally, there is a mandatory sticker to be applied to the windshield too carrying similar unique information.

You may be able to get away visually by buying an illegal HSRP, but if the cops or RTO squad stop and scan your number-plate into the Vahaan database, you will face the mandatory fine levied in such cases.

4. What about classic vehicles where there is no provision for number plates? Old Bajaj scooters had numbers painted on the chassis for the front.

Since Karnataka is not the first state to make HSRP mandatory, answers to a lot of these questions can be found in States where HSRP has been mandatory for long time e.g., Gujarat.
I came to know back then that the dimensions of the HSRP plate are also fixed, and you cannot decide your own dimensions (e.g., Maruti 800 had bigger rectangular plates behind as compared to front). Similarly, for the scooters, one will have to have it on the central front facia.

Key worrying questions would be the timelines and authorized HSRP vendors

While the IND plates are visually similar, the difference is laser etching of a serial number just below the IND and Hologram. This number is then updated by the plate manufacturer and fitment dealer in the Vahan Portal. The third plate which is essentially the sticker also has this number. If you are stopped, the cops and/or RTO officials can scan the laser code to the Vahan database. Whereas the local IND plates will not have this number.
