re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

Hi,
Heard that for the basic model VXi variants, it will still hold the old 1.2 - 4 cylinder engine.
If anyone have more clarity on this, kindly share.

Somehow this looks more like a facelift than a new generation. Hope they are not going to fool us with minimal changes like a bigger screen or new headlights.

Contrary to popular belief, AWD with its extra grip and stability will be a boon in Indian driving conditions. With the new high speed expressways that have come up, AWD will add an extra layer of safety under highway driving conditions.

Why? It's not like you are going to be easily losing grip while accelerating with a whole 82hp, even in the rain. It might be useful in Europe because they have to deal with snow half the year.

Wider tyres will provide much much more grip and stability at a fraction of the cost.

Do we have confirmation on the launch date?
As per reports, it's expected to launch in May 2024, but there's no clarity over the actual date.
With Maruti starting to accept new bookings, the launch must be around the corner and might happen at the start of May.

May 9th is the date I see in media but no announcement from Maruti as such. Without knowing what engine/transmission how people will go and book? I am reading these from multiple forums not sure which turns out to be true:
1. 1.2 Z series 3 Cyl + Mild Hybrid
2. 1.2 Z series 3 Cyl + Strong Hybrid (Maruti will bring this combo in Baleno/Fronx in 2025, but in swift that too with this launch is highly unlikely)
3. 1.2 K series 4 Cyl as outgoing model

But what I feel is there are lot of people out there who is ready to spend 50K more to get a proper automatic like CVT or TC in a hatchback rather than AMT, while every other country gets CVT Indians will be treated with AMT only sadly and mostly, let us wait and see.

re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

Even though the 4 stars rating is very good, the 3 cylinder unit just kills it for me. I don't know if in the future all car manufacturers will just offer 3 cylinder units as opposed to 4 in small hatchbacks.
Ostensibly it is in the interest of the environment they say but I feel it is just a ploy to cut costs and garner more profits.

Has lost all its charm. Looks disproportionate and kinda bulged up and weird. And that hood shut-line looks so awful, I don't know who thought it would look cool. Always feels like people forgot to shut it right.

re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

If Z-series is sole engine option for the upcoming Swift, then WagonR 1.2 will have a better engine than it. Who would have thought of such an eventuality?
Unfortunately the designers have messed up a clean design, especially with the bonnet shutline and the weird looking grill and foglamp housing.
Judging by international reviews, the new Swift has better ride and handling than before. However Maruti Suzuki needs to sort out the weak self-centering steering that affects majority of its cars including the current Swift.
Hope Maruti Suzuki gets this issue sorted and prices it favourably.
This video has a detailed comparison of the present and the upcoming Swift.

The chances of #2 are almost nil as even in Japan it gets only mild hybrid aka SHVS system. Besides, IMHO, I doubt Toyota will give it's hybrid system to a model that's not shared with it!

I feel maruti will go full steam with the new 3 cylinder engine across its portfolio dropping (Swift/dzire/Baleno/fronx/glanza/wagonr/ignis) the current 4 cylinder engine entirely or worst case (very unlikely from business perspective) keep it purely for wagonr and ignis to keep them price competitive.

According to reports, the series hybrid will first launch on the Fronx next year. I would be surprised if the Swift gets it at launch.
