re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

Quite a positive review of the new Swift from UK.
Seems Maruti has a potential winner / segment leader on their hands.

India generally receives a ‘watered down’ version of the international model.

So better to wait for the actual release here.

According to the reviews so far and manufacturer's claims, the 1.2 litre version of new Swift is slower than before. Additionally it is not yet released in foreign markets with boosterjet engine. Maruti Suzuki has golden opportunity to exclusively introduce 1.0 turbo version for Indian market and then start exporting it.
Maruti Suzuki should not limit the boosterjet to Fronx.

The European press usually gives glowing reviews since they find models like the Swift to be more sprightly and bare in relation to the ordinary models sold there. They will be gushing about the compactness of the car and the 'thrummy, sprightly' nature of 3 pot engines.

Nah. The Z12 would be the mainstay in India and they may have developed a new ICE engine in this age just looking at the numbers they could be doing in the Indian market alone. Just pray that the Swift gets the boosterjet as an option, not the sole option.

re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

The problem with the new Swift is that the one true strong point of the car, it's USP worldwide, would never be a selling point in India - the ride and handling of the vehicle. Swift was always a driver's car. It wasn't necessarily fast but handled beautifully. The new Swift, that I have driven in Japan handles even better. But it's bare-bones with very basic specs. And the engine is a typical 3 pot - I would leave it at that.

I hear that the Indian spec will get a Touch Screen Audio (,even Alto has it!), 6 Airbags as standard(probably), AGS (if you can call it a feature), and that's about it. No ADAS, no hybrid, no sunroof - Nothing else to write much about. It's the new Alto of the future.

For Suzuki haters - yes, safety may continue to be iffy - I expect a 3 star performance in BNCAP testing and not much more.

Why exactly would this be? A little surprising because even the new Alto K10 with just 2 airbags was just shy of 4 stars, mostly because of a subpar side impact. Granted, BNCAP doesn't award the point for seatbelt reminders but if the Swift is still only 3 stars even with side airbags then either the frontal impact would have to be worse than the Alto K10, or the side airbags would not be very well-performing (strange as the current Swift had a very good structural performance in side impact in both GNCAP and Latin NCAP).

Will there be three-point belts for all seats and will it continue to be i-Size compatible? The current Swift and Ignis are the most affordable i-Size ready vehicles in India.

Given the increased awareness about safety in India I don't think they would make the newer generation any less safer. The side aribags would add to the score.

As launch nears, new spy shots appear!

Quote:
the front fascia has been updated with refreshed lighting elements, a larger grille and a sportier lower bumper. Side profile has been enhanced with the introduction of a new set of sportier alloy wheels.
Quote:
key updates include a new dashboard and climate control panel. The most important update is a larger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It’s the same unit, as seen with some of the other new-gen Maruti cars.

I wish Suzuki localises the "ALLGRIP" system to bring down costs and offers the AWD version as well to Indian customers. It can actually democratise AWD the same way the Celerio democratised the automatic transmission in the Indian market.
Contrary to popular belief, AWD with its extra grip and stability will be a boon in Indian driving conditions. With the new high speed expressways that have come up, AWD will add an extra layer of safety under highway driving conditions.

Next-gen Maruti Swift to get bigger touchscreen, six airbags.

New Swift will get more equipment, safety tech and fresh styling inside out.

re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

Hopefully Maruti shows some crash test safety ratings at the time of launch, rather than issue their own 'self-certified' video of the car running into a pillow at 20kmph! Sincerely hope safety is a selling point at the time of launch.

re: Fourth-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 6.49 lakh

Good to know about the upcoming Swift. We Indians would prefer the car to be way safer than it is now in Gen 3.

Swift is a loved car in India and has a long prospect in this market, the new avatar comes with safer BNCAP / GNCAP ratings.

I already own a Swift AMT. I'm looking to replace my other 14 year old Ritz Diesel. I wouldn't hesitate pick another Swift. Good to know that Maruti is retaining its wonderful AMT in the new Swift as well. Just wish Maruti gives a taller 5th gear.
