Well, in the price range & segment the Palio Stile 1.6 comes at, most owners will still care most for the FE they are getting out of their car. The Palio 1.6 unfortunately will never give more than 10 kmpl which is less than that of a 1.6 Fiesta (around 11 kmpl) and even the Fiesta is said to be not very good on fuel economy.

Strictly speaking, a 1.6 litre engine should optimally give around 11.5-12.5 kmpl with 100% AC in the city since the Toyota Corolla manual gives around 11 - 11.5 kmpl with 100% AC and that too with a 1.8 litre engine.

Hence, based on the FE factor alone (which is the most important among other factors for buyers in this segment and price range) I feel that the Swift DDIS should prove to be a better value for money even though I agree that performance-wise, the Palio 1.6 will leave the Swift for dead !!

Can we please stick to the topic - FUN TO DRIVE!
And not discuss about FE, Service etc etc.

I have not driven Swift D, so can't comment on it.
For the moment, my vote goes to Palio 1.6!

Yup! Why did you go at the last moment?

EDIT: As for the guys who said, the common factor is FIAT, i agree. If only the palio had the 1.3 JTD! (But that would leave indica turbo for death)

Whats the difference? They are both Fiat engines!

Haven't driven the Swift DDis so I can't vote in this poll BUT the real tough poll would be between Palio 1.3 Multijet and Swift 1.3 DDis.

A few months later we can add Tata Indica 1.3 and Aveo 1.3 D.

I didn't know that the fun to drive feel comes from the engine only !!
On a serious note, do the Fiat guys sitting in Italy or anywhere know that they make sports cars in India.
But I do agree that the JTD engine is a gem of an engine. VW, BMW and Merc share their engines across different segments. They don't have the same handling characteristics though. There is the transmission, the suspension, the chassis and more.

I don't want to start a argument or anything. But I find the views of guys owning Fiats rather amusing.

So its time for TATA Indica or Chevy Aveo to move to great handling/sports cars category. Just have this engine guys !

Can you please explain this statement. And by the way I don't own a fiat.

FIAT JTD is a 2nd generation CRDI engine. On the other hand, I read somewhere that, ford's TDCi engines are 3rd generation. What's the difference ? More over 1.4 TDCi in Fiesta is very responsive engine which every one claims. Can't we say 1.4 TDCi as a gem of an engine ?

....what can i say mate if you get a change, take a palio & drive across the highway @ high speeds that you are comfortably in.
then & only then you will understand why do we go gaga over this car.

its a drivers car mate.... great engine with unmatched handling in hatch segment!

If I'm not mistaken the 1.3 will enter the Tata stables through the next gen Indica, which won't replace the existing one (read in OD, July).

I knew GM had access to the 1.3 D but was unaware of the fact that it was coming to India in the Aveo. I remember reading in a mag that they were developing a 3 cylinder version of the same to be put into the diesel version of the Spark (or another small car to be launched).

Anyways, enough diversion! My vote is for the Palio 1.6, simply because it gives more fun than even the petrol Swift which is faster than the Swift D.

Fun to drive hatch (thats what thread says) its Pailo 1.6 no doubt at all.
It gives great pleasure to own and drive Pailo 1.6 for sure!

Swift come close but definately Pailo scores more in fun to drive factor over Swift D.

Regards,

Ravi.

I just love the Fiat 1.6 engine. Simply on that basis I voted for the Palio. I have not driven the Swift diesel. So, while I can not comment on the engine, what I can, is on the seating position and accessibility of gear shift etc. In this, the Palio wins hands down. I have not felt so comfortable in the driver's seat of any other car. Not that I have tried out a score of cars, but the Swift does make me sit little too upright.
And when you start talking of the sound of the Fiat 1.6, that is pure heaven.

Don't think top speed alone makes the car fun! how many times to do test that?

Swift diesel has a different nature compared to the petrol. Its torque all the way, with decent enough power.
Not sure how many of the guys have driven swift diesel!

If I had to buy a car it would be the swift ,but even though the torque is very addictive in the swift when it comes to fun to drive I prefer petrol over diesel due to the high revving nature of petrol cars.

So my choice the palio 1.6

So you mean to say its not speed which makes a car fun to drive but the torque.
I guess my kinda fun to drive might not be that much fun for you..I like to cruise at 140 kmph with santana playing and my car feeling rock solid to the ground. Some one else would want to corner at 80kmph and be confident about it ...thats fun for him . And someone ..you for instance would like the torque and the turbo action. So lets just keep the opinions coming, thats what a poll is for and not questioning why fun??...where fun??...speed fun?? .... torque fun??... Palio 1.6 funn??... swift diesel fun???

dont take it personally. Just my 2 cents.
