Well I have extended warranties till 2008 september (from 2004 september). From the looks of TMP, which had a different name I cant recall earlier. They only cover consumables like Oil and filters.

My expenses have been mainly on shockers and brake pads/rotors. Which they, in anycase, wouldn't cover in TMP.

As far as the servicing for 2 years went. I somehow got some deals which made the first two services completely free (almost like a TMP for a year). I got another two while bargaining on insurance the next year.

So far in almost the three years of ownership, I have spent once for oil. But that would have set me back by just about 500-600 rupees only.

However, extended warranty, I could not have the confidence to do without, with the persistent problems I have had with the Fuel pump, the diverter valve, the rear wheel bearing and the reversing light switch. It seems whatever parts they replace comes back faulty within a few weeks. However, I did not have to pay anything for those parts till date.

VC12, how much did you pay for your Extended Warranty?
You mention that the effective period in your case is just 2 years with the EW (Extended Warranty)?

In my case i have confirmed that i had to pay just 5000 for 2 years OVER the 1 year warranty provided by Ford. That makes it 3 years in total for my car. My car is covered till Sep 2009.

Shiv, do share your experiences at the thread where i have provided the link below.

Benny,

I remember paying the same amount, but You may re check on this 3 yrs.

If one wants to add extended warranty , each yr would cost around 5-6000rs.

Guys here are the details:

Extended Warranty: Will cover only manufacturing defects.
TMP: Will cover wear and tear except for misuse, accident.

I had paid Rs.13500 for a 2Year/30000kms whichever is earlier TMP. I bought my Fiesta in Apr-2006 and had completed 30000kms in Jun-2007. They After the first 3 free services I had carried out 2 free services in this period. In the last service that I did at 31300kms they had replaced 4 suspension arms, clutch plate and some additional parts plus oil, filter change etc worth Rs.18000. Overall I had benefited for Rs.20000 plus replacements from this plan! If you are running your vehicle a lot and covering lot of kms (where the wear and tear comes into play) it is really worth.

I have the scanned copy of the details of the TMP from my TMP service booklet for everyones benefit.

When you are in the imageshack page and see this image click on it to see it in full resolution. That will be much more readable.

VC12 : i rechecked it last nite, and then posted the same here.
Also, the price list when i bought the car had a seperate section where they mentioned price on-road including 3 years Extended Warranty, which was greater by 5K bucks.

Shall probably scan the same and post here tomorrow.

LandCruiser : Thats quite informative. Good work.

Landcruiser, how much did you shell out for the TMP? Need to know if I should take one too for my 1.6 sxi. However, my driving per year is only around 8000 kms. I have extended warranty for 1 more year after normal warranty, and paid around 7 k for it.

I mentioned it already. It is Rs.13500 for a 2year/30k kms TMP. I got a discount of Rs.9k when I purchased the car so including that I paid Rs.4500 to them.

I dont know till what time you can purchase the TMP. For example now i cant buy any new TMP. There is no such plan exists. So if you want to buy a TMP after say 1 year of purchase of the car I dont know if such scheme exists. I bought it along with the initial purchase.

Friends. A little off-topic though. I don't think there was a oil change during my first service. I thought this was mandatory considering that the engine is new and the oil would have a lot of residue metal dust. Did you have a oil change or should you insist on it?

PS: I am still on two minds with regard to converting my extended warranty to TMP. Any help?

Shiv, there is no oil change at the first service, as per the service manual.
All they do at the first service is enquire about any possible issues, and a wash and cleaning of the car. My first service bill was Rs. 0/-.

benbsb29: how much would one pay for a service outside warranty for an ikon if it were to include just an oil change, oil filter and labour?

Spoke to the guy from Mody Ford who had brought the car for a TD few months ago. He was of the opinion that TMP is a good option only for diesel cars, so I have dropped the idea for TMP

Shiv, i am not really sure of that. I believe around 2500 should be what your looking at. I would leave that to other Ikon owners who have had their car for greater periods with them.
