re: Scoop: Next-Gen Toyota Camry spotted testing in India! EDIT: Launched at Rs. 48 lakhs

60L OTR Bangalore, that approximately 5L more than what the current model cost and its ~ 71K USD, almost 2x what it costs state side! Wondering if in this era of transitionary phase, it makes sense.

I second that. In fact, I’ll go a bit overboard in saying that I really want to see how many of these can Toyota manage to sell given present market offerings and transitionary phase as you highlighted

I see plenty of these in NCR, guess they will only sell more with the updated design.

Has toyota increased the ground clearance? looks more than the outgoing version.

re: Scoop: Next-Gen Toyota Camry spotted testing in India! EDIT: Launched at Rs. 48 lakhs

Toyota India on their website is listing the Camry as an Electronic On-Demand AWD.

It’s for sure something they’ve taken, re-worded and pasted from their USA Website erroneously.

In India net power output is 230ps, which is roughly 169kw / 225hp.

The AWD model sold in USA has an output of 236ps which is 173kw / 232hp and FWD has 225hp, which is what India is getting.

re: Scoop: Next-Gen Toyota Camry spotted testing in India! EDIT: Launched at Rs. 48 lakhs

Attractive car , but sabotaged by the price I’m afraid. Do Mahindra and Tata have to make a competitively priced D-Segment sedan for the other automakers to come to senses. I love the sedans more, but I would prefer the much cheaper Hycross hybrid, just because of the huge price gap. This all feels like a slow death sentence to the premium sedans south of 50 lakhs in our country. Convincing the average Indian uncle to get a sedan over a SUV is hard enough without these hefty price differences

The car does NOT look good imo, especially the front, the rear is ok, but that front end...
its like they pasted the front end of a prius onto it

re: Scoop: Next-Gen Toyota Camry spotted testing in India! EDIT: Launched at Rs. 48 lakhs

The new Camry looks more sporty and edgy than previous generations.
Toyota has used new li-ion batteries instead of tried and tested nickel metal hydride which shows their confidence in new lithium-ion technology.
Also, Toyota has used new 5th generation Hybrid technology first introduced with the Hycross.
All in all another winner from Toyota will affect sedan sales under 50L, also Toyota should introduce lower variants of Camry priced at around 40L or 30L it would be hit in fleet and much more accessible to private owners at lower price points.

Re: Scoop: Next-Gen Toyota Camry spotted testing in India! EDIT: Launched at Rs. 48 lakhs

It’s a shame that Toyota exploit their brand value in India and continue to sell extremely mediocre interiors at a premium. That interior is something that one would expect in a 30-35L car, not one that’s pushing 60 on-road. The newer Skodas are in a different league when it comes to interiors that give one a sense of occasion.

The Innova Hycross also has the same problem, and the Fortuner has had an ancient looking cabin for ages now. I wonder when will the Indian consumer stop looking at the badge’s association with something that rivals are quickly catching up on (reliability), and start demanding what rivals excel at.

Re: Scoop: Next-Gen Toyota Camry spotted testing in India! EDIT: Launched at Rs. 48 lakhs

Love the car and the pricing - going for it - I will get one in January in most likeliness

In UP so hopefully nothing has to be paid for RTO Expenses.

It has all the features I wanted and some more. Expensive yes but then what is not these days.

Toyota is rock solid and gives years of trouble free ownership and for that overpriced vehicles from there stable is a no brainer for me and for many of us. My 3rd Toyota now after the Innova Crysta and Fortuner. They do ensure there current customers stick around and for this you have to own one to understand the ease of ownership and peace of mind. Something many will not understand and I can make sense of it. A lot of my friends who do not own Toyotas debate how overpriced the vehicles are but then the ones who own never go for anything else. The resale of toyota vehicles is pretty much phenomenal and the cost of ownership very low.

Re: Scoop: Next-Gen Toyota Camry spotted testing in India! EDIT: Launched at Rs. 48 lakhs

I love the new Camry. It's finally going to be able to show its potential to the sensible buyer. Toyota is playing to its strengths, by offering a product that appeals towards an audience who value practicality. In comparison to entry level sedans from the German Trio, the Camry offers
- Approximately 15 lakhs cheaper
- Likely cost 1/2 as much on fuel, maintenance and spare
- Promises level of comfort ( ventilated seats )
- More spacious
- More features per rupee ( Adas, electronic steering adjust)
- Creature comforts for chauffeur driven passengers (control pod, integrated sunshades)
- Physical Buttons !
- Very high reliability & longevity
- Spacious boot despite a spare wheel

The only fly in the ointment is that it's not an SUV !

Re: Scoop: Next-Gen Toyota Camry spotted testing in India! EDIT: Launched at Rs. 48 lakhs

I don't think toyota wants to price this to sell. This is more of a halo product for people to take note, rather than buying. And in India, Camry IS a halo product, alas.

After the initial rush, this will settle to around 100-200 cars per month, that's my guess. But then again this is toyota we are talking about, they may sell 2000 of these also, if the halo becomes too much.

Am I the only one who think that, everything looks stunning when taking the parts in isolation, but there is some cohesion issues when looking as a complete car?
