• 9 Marutis selling more than 10k copies in October
• Rise of Ertiga+XL6+Rumion MPV

Ertiga based MPV is gaining popularity in both personal and commercial ownerships. This is clearly visible now on roads.

Interesting sales figures of this month.
I thought the fight was between Tata and Hyundai for P2 in the manufacturers championship, but now I see Mahindra joining the fun too. Glad to see two homogenous brands fighting to win over Indian hearts.
Almost every car, irrespective of the segment, has a MoM growth (due to festive season).

As always, the top 20 is DOMINATED by MS. Few observations though:

1. After Maruti, Mahindra has the most number of cars in Top 20.
2. Hyundai has a similar presence, but Mahindra has all big ticket cars, Scorpio, XUV, etc.
3. With the current safety route that MS has taken, I think their numbers will further increase, get ready to see bonkers figures for Dzire in coming months.
4. Not able to understand what’s wrong with the Seltos, such a good product but not getting the volumes.
5. Scared for TATA, after MS’s recent safety move, I don’t see any incentive in TATA cars. Mahindra has the SUV market fully captured, so I don’t think they’ll be affected much, but TATA has no such category advantage.

Let’s see what 2025 brings, having big hopes from Maruti now, huge expectations from Kylaq as well, I think the germans have finally cracked it with this one!

Virtus is proving to be the king of the segment, how much ever small the kingdom is. Now Slavia is consistently coming second. Overall good show by VAG in this segment.

In general Skoda numbers have gone slightly up. Kodiaq is doing good too for the segment (I know, Fortuner is an outlier). The 15 lakhs discount on Superb is making some movement atleast.

New Meridian impact, sales are slightly up.

Baleno + Glanza + Fronx + Taisor sold like 40000 units this month. If you include the exports, then the number will be close to 50000 per month. Thats close to what whole of Mahindra or Tata sells in a month.

That means Maruti is currently producing 1.1 Baleno based cars in a minute. Unbelievable stuff.

Grand Vitara has swiftly became the undisputed number 2 in the Compact SUV segment, after Creta.

Gone were the days when the mighty Creta's only worthwhile competitor was its own sister, the Seltos.

The downfall of Seltos and Honda Elevate has been startling. The Seltos more so because it was always a preference of young families and millennials alike, till few years ago.

Grand Vitara at 10th position with 14000 units and if the sales number are combined with Hyryder numbers would nearly be the same as Creta's numbers today.

A silent underdog, I would say, along with the K15C engine, which powers so many of the top sellers in the Top Ten (Ertiga/Brezza/GV).

It's just Kia's capacity + maybe exports constraints. Each month they are able to roll out exactly 21-23~ K cars. Some or the other car just declines by a X number and some other car rises by the around the same X number! Been observing this for months now. Take a look at each of the past months and check the numbers for all Kia cars you would see this pattern!

This does make sense. And if this is true then I would assume they increase or decrease numbers based on demand. This brings me to the Carens’ numbers which are slightly more than the Seltos! I think the value for money but boring looking MPV takes precedence over the BLING factor of the Seltos.

There was a time when Nissan used to be a laggard. Citroen + Jeep are fought hard to take that place from Nissan. A google search will state that Nissan has 288 dealer touch points and Citroen has just 68 dealer touch points! How can one sell 4 cars (c3, aircross, Basalt and C5) with just 68 dealers for a country that has 1.5 billion people?

Every player from the premium side of the sub 4-M SUV segment (Brezza, Nexon, Venue, Sonet & 3X0) figures in the top 20 together constituting around 60k+ units. This shows that there is huge market size in this segment.

SAVW can very easily carve out a 5k/month niche in this segment with the Kylaq without perturbing the top players. Should help them achieve their 100k target by 2026 giving them plenty of reason to stay and work harder on this market.
