Maruti emerges as the most desired car brand among IT employees

CLSA has just conducted a survey and the result comes as a bit of a surprise, especially since desirabilty and maruti don't seem to go hand in hand at least that's what is the general feeling.

Quote:
Maruti emerges as the most desired car brand among IT employees, followed by Honda and Hyundai. In the ‘Mr & Mrs India Survey’, 45% of those who intend to buy cars prefer Maruti and just over 7% prefer Tata Motors.

Well IMO, its more of VFM than desirabilty, if you read between the lines. It means us IT ppl don't get paid as much as the media projects it as. We end up paying most of what we get in taxes.

We can only dream of a Audi or BMW or for that matter, even a proper SUV. At the end of the day do end up drive marutis, hyundai and maybe honda city [not other models of honda]

No wonder, IT people obviously don't much about cars. (Let the brickbats begin)

- Most IT ppl get it as part of package
- Most of them are young and hence in middle/lower management cadre, so eligibility is not for very high end cars.
- Most of them look at the features (cosmetics)/VFM and hence maruti fits the bill.

IT guys get paid more (compared to other fields). But it all goes through as EMI for a house etc., Add the EMI of the car to this and you know why.

It has more to do with 'follow the crowd' syndrome, which is not limited to IT folks alone!

IT guys are the most sensible and practical guys. They know what they can afford and they go for that. Working with Crazy clients most of the time who are always very demanding (always asking for lower rates), it makes sense to pick Maruti considering its VFM, Service and longevity not forgetting resale.

I think they should have also asked about their "Dream Car" then the result would have been different. But There is no doubt why Tata is ranked so low..Its the image of those Sumos & Indicas that are abundant in IT

Why does it seems to be a surprise to many? Afterall, Maruti-Suzuki makes some of the best selling cars in India backed up with superb service backup and customer care. It is not a surprise piece of news for India atleast.

Seems to be like that Hyundai has lost it's sheen among the IT folks !

And the rise of Honda into the 2nd position shows the rising incomes of IT clan.

Quite VOLUNTARILY Maruti started fitting iCATS on ALL its cars as of around mid-April 2007. Has ANY other manufacturer shown such disposition?

Well its not that we are surprised, its more about what the article said about "IT people desire".
We don't desire these cars, but they are more practical considering all other circumstances. Maybe if the article had said, "IT people seem to prefer" then we would not have a problem.
