Hello,
I wanted to share this with some car enthusiasts like here, for long
time. I want to talk about the 'one of a kind' car in India. The Tata
Sierra. Excellent looks, solid exteriors and wow what an appeal it
makes ! I love that car so much. Think on it, i mean the shape of the
car is never again made by any manufacturer since then. The huge
glass in the back it just makes u feel something different.

I tried to mail the Telco Motors for suggesting the relaunch of it.
The problem with telco was not that the cars were so bad, but they
were launched when there was absolutely no market for them. Now that
the market has grown like anything, telco should think of relaunch of
the sierra. But not as it is. With a completely new styling, very
very very powerful engine (say 180 bhp), refined gearbox, classic
interiors and finally the solid feel.
Tata should think of including features like ABS, Alloy wheels, Turbo
Charger, Powerful AC, comfortable rear seat, power steering and
windows, music system, dvd etc. On the outside there should be, body
coloured bumpers, clear lens headlights and all the things which
enhance the style.

What do u think folks? Isnt it a great idea? Further tata can think
of soing the same with its estate. The sierra plaform in my opinion
was better than the indica platform. Indica, or Indigo have lost
somewhat the SOLID feel that the sierra gives u when u see it running
on the streets.

I wish to hear from somebody on this. Thank you. And I hope somebody
passes on this suggestion to the R&D team of Telco.
Regards,
AJO.

Hmmm,

yeah the seirra was a monster car alright and had a fan following but what you have suggested pal i think is not possible.

coz i think when tata launched the safari they stopped the seirra , coz at that time safari was light years ahead of what the seirra had to offer and it was a logical move. but then till date tata's have let the safari stagnate - crdi engine for the safari has already taken light years and still isnt here ...so going by that logic even if tata listens and decides to relaunch this car , it could be ages before you see anything like a powerful engine, classy interiors , smooth gear box....but yeah build quality is like a "truck".

logically speaking it wouldnt be wise for tata to go back to this platform - they have their hands full with the indica platform. i dont see this as a viable proposition for the tatas .....

best is get a 2nd hand sierra - modify it according to ur tastes ..or restore it !!

cheers

Or maybe they can bring out a Sierra-like version of Safari. That should be easier, right?

Yes thats absolutely right. Both the options are feasible. Either one should grab a second hand one and do what he wants with it. or tata should bring a sierra like safari. Anyways, lets see. Afterall, nothing is in our hands except the steering!

I also wished for a Tata Estate relaunch, that car was awesome too, but I guess it would never come back, there were some rumors around that it was being relaunched. The Tata Sierra provided HUGE amount of mods on it. You could do innumerable mods on it and it always looked great. But one of the worst things I've noticed in Sierra and Safari are that these cars tend to "drag" [if thats what you call it] a lot. Interior quality bad! In comfort, I can't say anything about the Sierra and Safari coz I've never been in them, but I can tell you that one of the most comfortable cars I've ever been in is the Tata Estate!

Gordon, isnt the Indigo Marina supposed to be a reincarnation of Estate ? I heard some of the earlier Estates that came out had some really huge problems... some of them were giving something like 5 kmpl!!!

well that depends on the condition of the car, the car was not built to give an average of 5 kmpl. Tata didn't have any plans for suicide. I had an Estate and it used to give an average of about 8-9 kmpl.

the sierra is one of my fav cars but i dont think tehy will launch it again
specially with a 180bhp engine
if they do they can consider the bhp 3.0lt crdi engine kept for the safari
what say guys
it will be fast, refined , goodlooking , comfortable and for most indians -FE

It would be a better idea to revamp the Safari with all the changes suggested by 'qqplus' rather than relaunch the Sierra. Surely, Telco would want the Safari to be their flagship model. And it wouldn't make much sense to have 2 SUVs as part of their lineup.

u bet the sierra was one of is knd , and i m in love with it . . . it was just too before its time . . . a macho lookingcar . . i owned one bought the new turbo version in 1998 but had to sell it in 2003 as it had started givin a lot of problems and we had an extra car at home . . .it was a metallic red one with 255 tyres and mags . . . jet black tints . . . all you sierra fans ( can u imagine it . . . )
by the way the sierra always had goodies like power windows , locking and power steering from its launch onwards (way back in 1992 or 1993 - not sure ) and i m sure the seats of the sierra were just too comfortable . . .
then came the 1997 turbo version which was definately one great engine which the dumb tata R"N"D team fit in the safari ehheheheheeeee
the came another yet improved version in 2001 which had newinteriors , coloured bumpers , and roof grills and new ac vents ( and a few more goodies )
but sumhwe the car failed to do well again
my bro is in luv with that car a die hard fan . . did nt buy a car fr himself for nearly a year coz my ddad didnt wanna buy a sierra but at the end my dad had to buy him one . . ., he was even offered the latest car then back in 1998 ( city had just arrived ) . .
have pleasant memories of pushing these ricks arnd with my baby . , . .
and upon findin out one can try and get a new one from the company as they have a few pieces left to dispose but till today they havent decided on watt to do !!! don t have nymre info on this . . juts watt i ve heard a few times . . . .. .
or you cud try n get ure hands on a 2001 ( last generation sierra) modl at arnd 2 lakhs or maybe 2.25 max . . .
guess i cn possibly just go on and on abt the sierra , maybe start singing a song abt it . .

cheers ,
manson .

Guyz...remember that TV Ad of the Sierra....the owner parks the car in his bunglow and goes in...then the Sierra goes out on the mountains, splashes mud all over itself and then finally comes back dirty...just when its owner comes back to go offroading....That was one helluva ad about one Helluva Beast!!!
