Another vote for SX4, for changing the rules of the segment, and even making Honda react to it.

I think COTY should be the SX4, for its fantastic VFM.

Usually its as in the thread title-

Car of the year 2008 is awarded for cars launched in 2007. Its more like the awards are prediciting that the particular car will be the car of the coming year.

I would be tempted by the Swift VDiS. However, my vote goes to the SX4. The reasons:

1. The VDiS just adds a proven FIAT engine to an established car while the SX4 is all new.

2. The SX4 is the first successful entry of MS into a segment higher than the Esteem. The Baleno was a dismal failure in the marketplace - too bland and over priced. It is giving a rum for its money to the leader - City. Though I still keep my fingers crossed about the durability.

Close call between the i10 and the SX4, this. The i10 has given Hyundai a shot in the arm (after a long time) and is truly a masterpiece of a hatch.

But the SX4 has redefined the C segment, offering just so much for a 7 lakh price. It has also changed the standards of equipment level, that other manufacturers will be forced to offer in this segment. Related linky (How the SX4 will redefine the C segment. For a long time)

My vote goes to the SX4!

See how the results are taking shape. Swift DDiS has come up to the second position, and my vote too. It's my car you see.
Agreed that Swift DDiS is only a variant, but looking into the booking waiting list and the performance compared to its own petrol variant, I think it can be counted for voting.

Should be a close call between the SX4 and Swift DDiS.

Anyways, voted for Swift DDiS because of the performance and FE combination, along with drop dead gorgeous looks and superb cornering abilities. Also makes it superb value compared to its competition.

My vote goes to the Hyundai i10. If the SX4 has redefined the C segment then the i10, for me, has redefined the small hatch segment to a greater extend. For me,the only feature of the SX4 that was new for the segment was the provision of airbags and that it was well priced. Features like ABS and alloys were already present in other cars in the segment.

The i10 has introduced features like dual airbags, ABS and sunroof in the small car segment. Not to forget the fantastic interiors.

the basis for my voting was not just a car that is technologically superior and has the best performance ( in which case we just cant vote beyond the super luxury segment comprising the BMWs, MERCs et al )

i went for the car which appealed to a larger spectrum of car buyers , made a positive impact to their ownership experience in that segment and also redifined certain rules in the market..

in this respect, i narrowed to SX4 and SWIFT DDIS but imho, SWIFT DDIS did much more to its segment than an SX4 ( all though im mighty thrilled for the competition the SX4 is giving to the "all conquering" HONDA CITY )

with the DDIS coming in, we got one of the BEST small capacity DIESEL engines in the world ! and also more refined diesel economy in the small car segment which was not in offer till then...

Nothing to think. SX4 it is for me for a sheer vfm and redefining c segment.

My vote goes for the sx4.

I feel that Optra Magnum,Safari 2.2,Scorpio 2.2 and the New Endeavor should be in the list.

i was really confused to give my vote to i10,sx4,and swift ddis.finally as a cheaper more attainable fuel efficient and already proven car comes with the sweetnes of the ddis engine -so i go for the swift.sx4 surely has changed the ways cars were selling in the c -segment.i10 but had little impact on the wagon r sales figure as it dint have any discounts and the pricing was a bit high.

For me, It's SX4 all the way.
Maruit has agian shown how car can be comptitively priced without compromising on features.

Thinking on the same lines.

ABS and airbags were already present in the small car segment before i10 came in. However, sunroof was a new feature it introduced (I think), but how many would opt for it?

i10 has brought fresh interiors though. A very welcome change to the segment.
