Re: Resale Value - The Killer opportunity

I bought a used SX4 ZXI recently. It was a 2008 model. I bought it for 3.8 lakhs. I think the selling price in 2008 was around 9-9.5 lakhs. So its about 60-65% depreciation in 4 years.
Also, I bought it from First Choice. Car was shown to me in the form that it was bought (was not very pretty). The mileage was also genuine, as I could get the complete service history and the mileage numbers matched.
Its better to buy a used VXi than a ZXi. 15" tyres cost about 50% lesser than 16" ones. The GC for VXi is quite good. The money saved could be used to purchase the extra accessories.

Re: Resale Value - The Killer opportunity

I bought my wagon r in 2006 from TrueValue.

Its a 2004 model and had 14500 on the odo.
I paid 3.23 lakhs.

In the past 7 years I have brought the odo to 76500 kms.
Today I got it evaluated by Truevalue.
Their first offer was 1.2 lakhs.

Plus a couple of exchange bonuses. Approximately 20k.

I am quite confident that I can find a private buyer at 1.5 lakhs.

So my car lost 30k each year.

If I think about it, it lost nothing at all. Since I needed to travel. If not my car I would have needed a taxi. The taxi would have charged me a lot more than 30k in a year.

Agree with you, for highway trips running cost of a petrol car can be estimated to be between Rs. 4 - Rs. 6 (@77/l and worst-best fuel efficiency). Whereas cabs, say Indica, would cost a minimum of Rs. 7 which is about 75% higher than the running cost of a private car. NOTE: Private car maintenance cost is to be considered for precise judgement.
