I think the number would be closer to 50 -100 cars registered in a day in Delhi. The car population is growing at an unimagineable pace in Delhi.

Makes me wonder why the government is missing a clear opportunity to make big bucks.

Fancy numbers, VIP numbers, whatever you want to call it, all should be simply purchasable at some $$$.

Infact, government should also consider US style of number plates with names and not ! At a still higher price than usual category.

It will be raining money for transportation department then

Todays HT Delhi has a biggish article which clearly states that VIP / SPECIAL NUMBERS WILL NOT BE GIVEN OUT ANYMORE.

Only real VIP's i.e. ministers, high court judges, supreme court judges etc shall be allotted these numbers & that too only for their official cars.

Thus ends all speculation !!!!!

The System in Dehradun is pretty simple and good.the VIP numbers have a official price and you get a full receipt when you pay for your VIP number.

1-10 and 786 are for Rs.51000/-
numbers like 0099,0055,0100 etc are for 25000/-
numbers like 0999,0888 are for 15000/-
numbers like 8888,9999 are for 10000/-
numbers like 2888,6777 are for 5000/-

rest booking a number from before is for 3500/-

Simple and easy.
This way has come into effect due to a very very sad mishap which happened sometime back.
the RTO was under pressure from various political groups and the trend was that the CM used to book the first 10 numbers in every series.
Later he started getting threats for booking numbers.
Poor guy had a heart attack in which he passed away.

Since then this rule has been put to effect.

OT: You are kidding arent you. C'mon, you cant be serious.
Anyways this system is good.
I am guessing if you knw any of those guys who do all the paperowrk for the car including the registration and the insurance and stuff, you can block a number.
I blocked my number in Haryana though it was nothing fancy or anything.
Want all my cars to have the same number.
Whats the scene with this number thing in Hyderabad, does anyone have any idea?

You can still get VIP nos in Delhi if you have the right links. I know people who have got vip no's on their cars after that incident. It is tough now no doubt but possible.

I think it's cheaper in UP, haven't checked the latest rates for a while though. Last I remember, I got 0010 for 10,000. And it was the same for 1-10.

@notorious
in delhi you cannot get vip nos.i got double zeros in the end (xx00)for my new car recently in august.
ask your dealer to give a no. like this.they have it in their series.because i faced the same problem at the time of delivery of my vehicle

i agree with ankit...i also have two 00 in the end of my number...just tell the sales person that you are willing to pay for a special number and then butter him up and get it for free...
or get some link at the dealership...thats what i had...
