Before doing anything Fiat needs to take all their top management from here and throw them in the arabian sea. No matter what they do - launch panda/idea/alfa romeo, bring in JTD , launch lancia panda etc etc- its not going to work till they change the whole top management at the kurla plant. No car can save them because these guys are out to commit suicide here! Besides, i'd hate to see brilliant cars like panda/idea/alfa etc die here because of the idiots at Fiat india.
Bringing in Lancia is a good option. Those monkeys at fiat india have done so much damage for fiat that it's going to take decades to get the fiat name back into the top rung indian car makers list. But, i wonder if the parent company has so much of money to bring in a new brand here. Sure, lancia is not known here and that will work to their advantage but then they will have to spend millions in establishing the lancia name here and we all know how "brilliant" fiat is in marketing. Maybe with a new team they may be able to do that too....
See, it all comes down to a new top management!

Probably start a 24x7 Customer service cell than the existing 24 hrs breakdown cell which is out of service most of the times...

Getting a new management is a good vision ...and to start it all up, they should start sending replies to our emails...

they can give the following exclusive options to customers (Its all imaginary remember considering the value of 'pie' for solving mathematical sums) here's an idea which they can sell

Note the following IDEA has been sourced from a writeup at www.cybersteering.com and is written by Veeresh Malik who is my boss he is a media person and writes about cars.. here he has referred to Indica as a model so we can replace Indica/Tata by Fiat here and this idea would sound good...

So let me make a statement here on how I would buy an Indica, not why.

1) I would require the option to buy an Indica MPFI petrol direct, of being permitted to take factory delivery myself, ex-Pune. If Mercedes-Benz and other large manufacturers can offer this as a means to giving a customer a choice between a dealer and the manufacturer, then why not Tatas? As an Indian in India I would probably pay a small premium for this service because I would know I am getting the genuine stuff.

2) I would then insist on being permitted to buy genuine spare parts directly from the manufacturer's offices everywhere, and get the work done by a mechanic of my choice, authorised dealer or otherwise. If Tatas can distribute tea all over to every small little kettle on two bricks with sticks in between, then they can surely stock 30-40 of the most fast moving proprietory Indica specific parts in every small town, if neccessary at the tea shops.

3) I would insist that Tata Engineering start some sort of "pride of ownership" maintenance courses for those interested. This would include road safety as well as environmental friendliness.

4) And lastly, I would open up two-way lines of communication directly with the manufacturers aiming at developing loyalty both ways for the next vehicle bought by me as well as those who I would suggest this vehicle to by word of mouth. Multi level marketing in automobiles, and why not?

please comment ... about your views on this to be adopted by Fiat India Pvt. Ltd.

cool ideas
i think they should keep fiat brand for the palio and get new top management consisting of indians then alongside they should launch lancia brand and sell some of their products which have done well worldwide while trying to instill faith in indians about fiat and slowly launch new models along the fiat line too and launch alfa romeo and ferrari and maserati too which can share a showroom in a couple of big cities but seperate it from fiat showrooms and keep lancia showrooms seperate too

He was positive. Every time I call them, I get the same answer "Concerned person will call you..". I don't know who that concerned person is. Once they gave me a number saying it is sounth india's regional office in Bangalore. When I call them it is answered by Sundaram motars, Bangalore. Is Sundaram controlling Fiat?

Fiat will have to change their management and approach towards their customers and prospective customers. They have to put more effort into quality and consumer satisfaction - they shouldn't be selling rusted cars to anyone except scrap dealers.
They'll also have to aggressively market their products. Maybe they could learn something from Bajaj. The Palio 1.2 is no hotrod when it comes to performance. It's just a civilized, steady, solid and safe car. Highlight those points just as Bajaj did in their Caliber advertisements. It was those ads and an honest bike that got Bajaj up to the no. 2 spot ahead of Escorts Yamaha and TVS Suzuki.

Most of Fiats suceess came from total domination of the home market till late 1990's. They got a big lumpsum from setting up the Lada plant, only to get burnt in cut price Lada's being shipped over. They went on to S America and were quite successful until the Brazilian crisis five years ago. Italy now find's Peugeots, VW's in the top 10 best selling car. Basically, Fiat have a flwed globalisation policy - spread out but never controlled or dominated
