I am assuming that you are looking for the Alto VXi since you have posted in this thread.

Alto VXi was a wicked hatch with a 1.1 cc engine.
It offered great driveability and decent mileage.
It was discontinued soon as the sales were nothing great and it was eating into the sales of Zen, Wagon R and the 0.8 cc Alto.

There is not badging of VX in Maruti.
The earlier variants were as below:

LX- Base Version. Black Bumpers, No Power Steering, No AC
LXi- LX + Body Coloured Bumpers+ AC+ Power Steering
VXi- LXi+ 2/4 Power Windows

Alto VXi was equipped with a rear wiper(without demisted IIRC).
Hope it answers your query.

In Maruti terminology, the 'i' at the end usually stands for Power Steering.

During early Maruti days, there was indeed a VX. Alto 1.1 had a VX, even Esteem had a VX. A quick search on the internet showed me this image:

When the Alto came out in late 2000, the version with the F10D engine was available only in the Vx form.
I should know, since I took delivery of my Vx in January 2001.
I think about 6 to 8 months after the launch, the Vxi was introduced with power-steering (as the 'Alto Spin').

The EPS (power steering) is the primary difference - the lack of it in the Vx is really not a big issue unless you have a tight or awkward parking spot.
I "managed" with my Vx for close to 13 years, finally in December 2013 got the EPS retro-fitted.
Maruti used to provide an EPS retrofit kit for the Alto & other cars, sadly this is no longer available.
That said, you can get the components of the EPS kit separately - like I did.

Alto 1.1 was an awesome car. With good power, driveability, and air conditioning. The mileage was also decent for the power it gave. Sad maruti had to discontinue it because of lack of sales.

Did they have have Alto 1.1 in 2010? I saw an Alto in one of the used car showrooms in Bangalore, he claims it to be 1.1 engine.

LXI came with AC+PS
When launched in 2001 it came with VX and not a VXI

The LXI / VXI models were the ones launched with the EPS nothing more FYI.

The sales of alto LX was far more than its VX counterpart and it was in no way a threat to its younger sibling .

Re: Maruti Alto 1.1L VX discontinued. Edit: Should it be relaunched?

Most Maruti cars had a VX option in the early noughties before Power Steering became standard in all variants except the base. I believe there was a Zen VX as well? We owned an LX variant of that one, my favorite car till date.

We've owned both the Alto and Esteem VX variants in the past, both cars were a hoot to drive with engaging steering characteristics. Both moved on ultimately as Dad preferred PS variants as he got older and parking in tight spots became a bother.
