Mercedes Viano launched at 60 lakhs +

At an on-road price of 60 Lakhs plus (Mumbai), the Viano has been launched by Mercedes Benz. This 8 seater giant van /people carrier is on display at Sanghi Motors.

Hotel industry? Corporates? Niche vehicle in huge families?

Niche vehicle, but for 60 lakhs plus? I guess it's only for large hotel chains or corporate houses who can buy it under the EPCG scheme for half the price. However, India for some reason or another has not been very welcoming for these sort of people carriers and I don't see the Viano making any impact at all.

As far as a large family vehicle goes, I would rather buy an E and a C class to ferry around 8 family members! More style and still have some change left over!

Decent looking van and good interiors too. Like rtech said I dont see many private owners but mostly 5 star hotels buying them to ferry international travellers and giving them tourist rides accross the city (Read Mumbai Darshan)

A quick visit to the UK website shows that the viano costs the same as the equivalent E class in classic form. Totally overpriced. Probably worth sourcing direct from aborad rather than through MB India

While on that topic, I noted loads of MB E200 K taxis from mumbai during the airshow - these were definitely not the indian spec one - (wheels were different) and suspension a little lower so maybe direct import could be cheaper for high end cars

60 lakhs. Way too much. As said , its best for the hotel industry. Or even joint families. For me, i'd rather do with the new Previa or the Nissan Elgrand which would cost less than half the Viano.

There is Omni which carries 8 people in 2 Lakhs. Qualis/Tavera cost around 7 Lakh and there are Endeveour, Forester, Terracan between 12-15 L. All carry same no.of people, still cost differet. What you get is what you pay for. So now, stop whining over outrageous prices that MB charges for its vehicles :-) What you get is a state-of-the-art vehicle and that will always come at a premium. (Of course, I too wonder why does it cost more than E-class only in India).

the Viano will be a hit for hotels and businesses, but for families, this is a completely insane choice. They'd rather take the Nissan or the Previa.

I feel this kind of logic is just irritating. Ferrari 360 Spider - 2 seater for 65 lakhs?!?!?!? (showroom price, without duty)!

Vance, what makes you compare a Viano with S-class? They are segments apart, meant to do different things, except that their prices are similar.

This vehicle will sell mostly under the EPCG scheme where it will be available for around 35lakhs.. also vance S class is bought for private reasons whereas the Viano will be bought by corporates

The MB 100 and MB 140 were cheaper because they were fundamentally badge re-engineered Ssangyongs.

The Viano I feel is still too expensive, but because it's a CBU? It would shed a lot of price if it was manufactured in India. There is a lot out there that even corporates or hotels could pick up for a lot cheaper and much of the same comfort.

60 lakhs is a huge sum of money to shell out for an 8 seater van. On second thoughts, how much do Volvo B7Rs sell for?

B7R would roughly cost around 40 lakhs.
When I first saw Viano at Sanghi Motors I was riding and passed it quickly and just had a glimpse of it and I thought it must be some new variant of MB100 but then today when I saw this post then I came to know its a new van and confirmed this by seeing the pics.
60 lakhs way too over-priced.
