Well I would understand if it was something that they invented & were struggling to get it right (like Merc with the SBC) but CRDi's are running well for other manufacturers like Hyundai so why should VW falter? And cars like Hyundai's are built with much more cost control too.

Also the DSG in the Laura is doing fine seems like. Plus its selling in much larger numbers. The E-brake debued in the A6 first.

VW has been messed up lately.

My cousin just booked one in Agra - Paid 1.2 Lacs as booking amount and was taking delivery in January.

I should show him this thread. I quite liked this car. So sad !

Yes Mpower the, Passat in India is the PD one not the new CRDi one. That has not been launched in the Passat but is available in the new A4.

haha, VAG group back to its tricks.
And to think that VW tries to sell its cars on solidity and engineering.
Shucks, thank god the Golf GTi isnt here, thats perhaps the only VW car that I`d be tempted to get.

I am still confused.. Isn't DSG one of the bets technologies available for automatic transmission. Till this post only what I have heard is very very positive reviews about the gearbox.

Can anyone please let me know if this is an issue with the DSG box or with the installation by the VW crew.

I find this strange. We had a Volkswagen which we used in Africa (no less) for around 300,000 kms without any major work on the car. This bad reputation for VW started from US. Ironically the VW Rabbit launched in US was a Golf modified heavily by Americans. That Rabbit was panned in Europe too.

It is so true in Europe nowadays. Jap cars were always known for their reliability but now they have done wonders on their styling and this combo is just irresistible. Here in Switzerland, the saying is German cars had their time in Europe. Now the Japs rule!

Why have Mercedes chucked the SBC and gone back to conventional brakes!
You tell 'em! Why can't cars stay simple & reliable instead of complex & unreliable.

Look up my DSG reviews, it is the absolute best auto gearbox available today. Nothing matches a DSG for smoothness or convenience.

The Passat problem has more to do with its reliability. How good is a feature if it doesn't work? Worse still, leaves you stranded on the road?

This thread has become really intresting...specially after reading the autocar Oct issue, where they give high praises to passat except for the oil change issue!!

Am Amazed. Imo Volkswagon is quiet a big brand all over world and heard many praises from people regarding Passat. However its possible they were not actual users and as GTO said the ownership reviews are coming like that so highly believable.
Unfortunate for an expensive car to have so many technical flaws!

Add to that "How good is a feature if you pay a bomb and it doesn't work?" The feeling of being "taken for a ride" and stranded on the road watching a bullock cart pass by is difficult to get over with

Cheers,

I think VW are losing a hell lot of credibility in India. Poor A.S.S with Skoda and now reliability problems with VWs. Whats next? Audi?
