If you guys are getting excited about the base model with "just" 85 Hp, wait till they launch the GTi with atleast 100 hp!

Already rubbing my hands in glee...

But wont the weight of the car be a disadvantage in terms of performance and fuel efficency

they are launching the 1.3l now. next stage is the diesel and there are talks of the swift with the 94bhp baleno engine in it. but the last two variants are not before 2006.

well the reason it is heavier is because teh car is built as per euro safety standards..so no more worrying about the fenders getting dented when you lean on it.
this car is to be the exact copy of what is available abroad..except the engine

Yea, as ice says, it won't be before 2006 for sure. Also, intitially it may only be for motorsport use with limited versions being sold in the market. Who knows...its a wait and watch situation.

Either way, I can't remember the last time I was this excited about a new car from Maruti. Wait, I can't remember the last time Maruti actually launched a new car!

Sorry for taking over the thread, but I just saw this news article on the Hyundai HED-1 concept. This is the car likely to be the next generation Getz.

Don't you think it bears some resemblance to the Swift?

ICE, while the Baleno engine may make it into the car initially. However, for motorsport use the car would be the same as is used abroad for racing. This is because there will be a common FIA homologation for the Swift.

What that means is that if the 1.5L twin cam is homologated with the FIA, that will also be sold in our version here. And, it may be ready in time for the 2006 INRC season!

I hope so dude. European standards are for Europe. I hope they keep to the same standards here. :( For all that we know people over here might start cribbing about the FE and then Maruti will go in for a micro-thin sheet.

Has to be.. after all hyundias are best at doing that.. i mean copying. The new Accent seems to be some what NHC look a like and the new Sonata.. need i say something every knows what its all about.

Coming back to the Swift it should come in 1.3L and then later with JTD and also Baleno engine which is 94 BHP. Some saying 100BHP (Do correct me cause i am confused)
