Speedfreak ..thanks for the pics ..
I dont think anyone needs to 'guess' about the car ....

Anymore ..do send them across.

the news is out on rediff- the price range of the new safari (as quoted by rediff) is 7.83-12.70.

here's the link....

NEW SAFARI

no specs, though- or pics......

as the car has been launched today, further details should be out by tomorrow, or the day after- at the most.

i'm keeping my fingers crossed- i hope the powerplant has at least 130 horses...and 260nm....

edit: another site has the detailed info- here's the link-

NEW SAFARI

115 bhp....i'm a li'l disappointed....but 300nm....hmmm....all comments reserved till the test drive....

Turbo Charged Common Rail motor called DICOR (see earlier posts) - the Turbo whistle is unmistakable. Dealer says 135 bhp, but no printed matter to confirm it. Yes it is 25 kgnm of torque that the dealer talked about, my mistake.

The prices quoted on rediff pretty much confirm what we've heard all along - Rs.30,000 to Rs.60,000 increase across the board.

The models available will be Lx, Ex and Vx featuring the DICOR engine and the LXi, EXi and VXi featuring the 2.4 litre 135 bhp petrol engine. Add the 4X2 and 4X4 options and that makes it 12 variants in total.

My dealer has quoted an estimated 9.4 lakhs on the road for the EX 4X2 and 10.30 for EX 4X4. VX is expected to be at least Rs.1 lakh more than the EX, which should bring it to about Rs.11.50 with 4X4.

So am I. 115 bhp doesnt sound like a lot though the vehicle did move like greased lightning. 3 litres to develop just 115 bhp?????

I'll wait till I get the specs sheet from the dealer - on the road prices expected at 11 am tomorrow. So I wonder if the 135 bhp quoted by the dealer referred to the petrol motor. WOuld that be a good idea now?

Engine :

Type : Direct Injection Common Rail
Capacity (cc) 2956
Max. Output (PS) at rpm 115 @ 3000
Max. Torque (Nm) at rpm 300 @ 1600-2000

It does not say TC anywhere ... I really wonder if this is Turbo Charged .. Cos just a 15 BHP Increase after using Common Rail kind of sounds funny for a TC'd 3 ltr DI

But the rest of the specs are class apart depending on how long they are to-gether :-)

Check : http://uv.tatamotors.com/newuv/index.asp# its updated with the DiCor specs

Yeah right but I did hear a whistle when I drove the vehicle. Had to be a turbo whistle, but I wonder if NA Common Rail motors also have a whistle (something to do with the pressured fuel injection?)

thats what indicates its a TC ..
max Torque figure of NA engines are generally indicated at a fixed engine speed ..
eg - xxXnm@ 2200rpm
whereas incase of TC engines they show a rpm range like above (1600 - 2000)

this is something that i have noticed ..correct me if i am wrong .

Has to be a turbo. Common Rails dont work withou turbos.

off topic ...just want to confirm ..
the palio 1.9D is not a common rail ..right ?

nah- it isn't, Fiat is yet to introduce CRDI engine in India :-(, I don't think they have in them to run a car company in India..too bad

...........of whatever little there is on the Tata Motors website , it definitely makes a good first impression ... color option is also a good thing ....alloys look good (were very much required) ... and the headlight treatment is good as well ...

just want to get behind the wheels ASAP ...

wait for a couple of months ... and just go ahead and buy it after that ....

Thanks to all the enthusiasts over here .... especially STEEROID ...I think he deserved a special thanks from all of us ....

The Tata Motors website is getting updated at this very moment ... I think it should be complete in about 2 hours time ....

Keep Hitting ...

Nope not updated till now. And I could not get any colour options.

Ok i couldnt find any thing diffferent from the out goin model, but the engine is very responsive. Unfortunate the gear box hasnt changed, explains 8.7 lks price on road instead of 8.4 lks for previous model. gears ratios have been changed and is real good in city drives. I am sold for the lower end one . i thnk its value for money, and im buying it soon.the higher end one is real good with ABS ,AIR BAGS, ALLOY WHEELS, COLOURED PANELS, LCD SCREENS DVD PLAYER AND REVERSE GEAR CAMER .The cheap plastic is ON the down side and also the roof A/C blowers leaking water when air humid.

prices on hyd road

lx 4x2 - 8.76
lx 4x4 - 9.88
Ex 4x2- 10.39
Ex 4x4 - 11.36
vx 4x2 - 13.19
vx 4x4 - 14.24

My view vx waste value, get a crv instead or a tuscon
ex little bit over priced but comes with abs and airbags
lx good value for money , down side no abs still im buying it

Saw the ad in today's paper. The safari looks cool and has little bit of forrester like front looks. very little though! mostly because of the headlamps i guess.
