As sha said very curious about the Gypsy !! Since apart from a few enthusiasitic folks like us its only the army and police which buys the gyspsy and they could just trudge along with the same engine ! But seriously any news about this engine / upgrade would be immensely helpful.

They forgot to phase out the Wagon R. Maruti had already announced plans to phase out the 800 and Omni. So how come the new engine for the Omni.

You are simply outstanding, you get nearly all the scoops well before time and are always very accurate also. And this one is again amazing, you have ripped open all the maruti plans for next 2-3 years. Hats off to you.

Lets see, when these engines start coming up, its really good to see more powerful engines coming up in cars like Wagon R too.

AFAIK GV is going to be up graded .A V8 engine with lesser power and FE increased will be introduced and the current version is not available with MSIL as of now as the new one will be on our shores soon,

Oh ye lords who art in the land of rising sun!!!

Please, ye, let the 5% wrong part be about continued availability of the M800, Omni and Alto!!!

We dont want them!!!

May thee grant thine folk in MSIL the wisdom to spend the energy and resources to make cars in demand like the swift and dzire!!!

Common sense tells me you phase out the old and bring in the new.

But maruti....oh my, a line up of 10-12 cars soon, 7 of them competing for space in a tight segment.

Though bringing the sx4 diesel was an obvious choice, it comes very late and then there will be the waiting period for it. Swift-dzire-ritz-sx4 all with waiting periods is going to put some people off

How about spending time in overall fit and finish, quality work instead of just doing facelifts and newer engines?

They wont phase out the M800 or omni. That is what reading in between the lines of this articles tells me.

The Hindu Business Line : Maruti not decided on phasing out 800, Omni

I think Maruti is asking their customers wrong questions. There is a difference between "what do want changed in <model>?" and "would buy <model1> if we replaced it with <model2>?"

Great job as usual Sid. Good to know Maruti will have a thoroughly modern engine line up pretty soon. Just a question, what happens to the LPG models? Any plans of offering the new engines with a dual fuel option? (sorry that's two questions!)

Sid Keep'em Coming , I am also curious about the life expectancy of the Gypsy from now on and are they doing enough numbers even now to keep it in production in the first place ?
