Ads from the '90s - The decade that changed the Indian automotive industry

Another vacation to my hometown and I had the opportunity to dig out some old editions of Auto India and some other magazines. Reading those again after many years brought back memories of how much I used to dream about buying a car. The dream car kept changing from M800 to Gypsy to Esteem to OHC.

PAL was still alive. So was the lovable Premier with not so lovable diesel engine. 0-60 under 12 sec!!

How could I forget the Isuzu engined Ambassador? HM was trying to defend against the upcoming onslaught.

Ads from the '90s - The decade that changed the Indian automotive industry-uno.jpg
UNO heralded the re-entry of much loved FIAT. I remember it did create loads of expectation. FIAT had money to spend on ads too.

Ford enters with Escort. But could not de-throne Esteem as the quickest to 100. So, Ford settled for the "comfort" zone

Maruti came with the face-lifted Esteem in '97. Drool material indeed!!

TATA was avoiding a head-on battle. Did make the most beautiful ads, though.

First ad announcing arrival of OHC

Feel free to contribute more ads, please?

Wow! Amazing stuff there

Ads today don't get you as excited, in print aleast. The exception being the Bimmer fold outs in car mags But then again that's not the same is it?
