I'm not a big fan of Ford cars (although I was considering buying the Ikon). The pricing, like that of the Fusion, will be a serious folly. I'm not one to pay 11L for a Ford (Focus or otherwise).

To take on the competition, they'll have to pit it against the NHC and not anything above that.

Focus is very open to mods should be a good one to play around....

On the stag....the GT V8 with 300 horses is the best bet that one could drive compared to others in its class ...Its also rated as the BEST MUSCLE CAR

from what i could make out of the focus the was that the sedan drove like a tank...2dr hatch back felt slightly better...and if they plant the 1.8 duratec gahh ..it'll make a horrible ride compared to the corollas and the civics..

and btw they have the 2006 model ready and will be out soon...we'll get the older shape since they are launching it this Diwali...which SUCKs!!

Ford calls this engine Duratec in the states but it has no connection to the Mondeo's engine. Duratec is just a marketing name (like Vortec) , there are many engines that go by the name Duratec and they are not all the same.
They sell the Mazda 3 with a 2.3 litre engine? In any case the 3 is not pitted against the likes of the Camry - that would be the 6, though the engine is nowhere near those of Honda and Toyota when it comes to refinement or power delivery.

Yes, Ford now uses Duratec as a brand nowadays. My friend tells me his Fusion comes with a 1.6 litre Duratec motor, but I thought the Fusion uses the 1.6 from the Ikon which was the 1.6 Zetec used on the Escort...does it mean that the same engine now has a different name?

i feel they will fare better if they brought in the hatch back in the Premiium B segment at a competitive price ..

as for engine ..Duratec is the name given by Ford of Europe for their 4's and v6's ..
the Focus and the mazda 3 both have the 2.3 Inline 4 motor called Duratec 23 .infact mazdas and ford have same engines ..

the duratec Sci (1800 cc ) is the one used in Mondeos ..which will be planted in the focus .. all in all the engine lacks refinement and power focus will need atleast the 2.3L to maintain their Josh reputation ..

Actually the Mazda3 is best in its class . The 2.3 is an excelent engine and it competes very favorably all around. BTW, this is the IKON/Fiesta that Europe gets:

And this is the hopped up version:

For the US market only, the Mazda 3 uses a base 2.0 and optional 2.3 (MZR)....to satisfy Americans' thrist for displacement. Focus ST uses the same 2.3 but makes 10 hp less and is called Duratec 23 ( I think it loses the VVt). For other markets, 1.6 is the base engine and 2.0 is optional.

The 2.3 MZR is also used as a base engine in the Mazda 6 so it is actually is going up against the Camry and Accord.

Escort, Fusion and Ikon all have different engines.
The 1.6 that was used in the Escort was a DOHC 16V zetec motor. The one is the Ikon is a cheaper 8V version and is badged ROCAM. The Fusion 1.6 is their high tech engine (all aluminum with electronic throttle) that evolved from the Zetec and the Zetec-SE. Ford brought in this engine so that the 1.8 version can eventually be used in the indian Focus.

from what i see, Ford has its worst vehicles running in India till date!

My dad hates Ford to the core, saying all their vehicles are just dump! and to quiet an extent its true. Having been outside India, the Ford vehicles i have seen, are so very good, but somehow its true they got the worst vehicles in india.

for Example, the Ikon, then the Endeavour. As of Ford, it actually is just a Pick Up truck converted to a proper closed SUV like. but they should have actually launched the Explorer for us. how about some nice Falcons, Mustangs, Tauruses, GTs, Thunderbirds, etc

the other big problem is that all the vehicles coming to india, are so stripped down! i hope the Focus comes in AS-IS at that price, coz even the price of 11 lk, is too much for the Focus. atleast we should have the privelage of having a proper fully loaded vehicle, with buttons on the steering, etc.

The predictions are never true by any magazine I have waited for many cars over the years depending on the predictions of all auto magazines but nothing has ever been true.
They predicted that the new CRV won’t be launched until mid 2005 so we bought the old one (September 2004) and just after a month the new CRV was launched in India

They predicted that the new Octavia which is already launched outside India will be there in India by March 2005 but I don’t see it coming here before 2006
