Thanx a lot AyAn! for the photos of the out going and incoming VW Polo!

The newer polo looks much more slick.
The headlights are nothing but amazing as compared to the old boring ones.

Whoa! It looks like the Scirocco!! :D

looks like I have to delay my plans again! :(

Volkswagen is targeting a price of Rs. 4 lakh for its brand new car launching by this year-end or early next year. VW is ready to introduce its small car model Polo in the Indian auto market powered by 1.2L petrol engine. It aims to sell at least 25,000 units annually in India. The car will be placed in the A2 segment and will compete with models like Honda Jazz.

Skoda received a lukewarm response to its model Fabia and Honda Jazz was also slow in picking up volume sales due to its hefty price tag. Realizing the importance of price sensitive Indian market, VW is making no mistakes while pricing its new model.

VW currently has Jetta and Passat models in its product portfolio which are both high-end cars. However, it intends to generate volume sales with Polo and therefore it intends to price it extremely competitively.

VW has already invested nearly Rs. 3300 crores and has received fresh financing from the World Bank to the tune of Rs. 920 crores. However, the tenure for complete financing is not available as yet. The company intends to launch environmental friendly models and increase its market presence with more dealer networks.

Doesn't it sounds too good to be true ? What will they offer in the base 4lac variant ? Deep questions arising, lets just wait till it launches or sidindica comes up with some info.

Well fabia base version (active) with the 1.2L engine comes in at 4.9 ex-showroom. This model still has two airbags, stereo etc..

If VW have high levels of localization, a basic version of the polo for around 4L sounds very possible and very tempting!

cheers

If VW manages to keep it between 4 and 5 lacs, this car has the potential to become a best seller.
But they sure need to improve their dealer and service network.Try to tap non-metro markets. But the other 2 cars in VW's portfolio,Jetta and Passat have a strict metro-oriented clientele. So thats going to be a problem. They are going to have a huge void in their line-up.

The immediate task at hand for VW is the successful launch of the Polo. Judging by the tepid response to the Skoda Fabia, VW is worried about meeting its India target of 25,000 units a year. To ensure the success of the Polo VW has put a target price of Rs 4 lakh for the base model with the naturally aspirated 1.2-litre engine.

Even ACI has mentioned about 4 lacs for VW. I would be surprised if this happens. In other segments VW has a premium above Skoda. Would be great if they prove me wrong here.

From the spy pics posted by John it seems we would be getting the old model also probably thats how they can price it at the said 4L mark.

But those are much older pics, posted in March 2008. I don't think VW are that stupid that they would bring in an older model after the newer one is released.

Besides, the Autocar India article talks about the new Polo.

And didn't the same thing happen for the Fabia? The old Fabia was seen in India in spy shots, and even road tested by some TV channel, but finally it is the new one that was out on sale.

The clatter of the diesel engine of this car can be heard from several metres away. Recently my colleague rented for a week end and it was so noisy that it bothered so much. Very cramped as well. We already have better options in India.

I think polo will be priced in Jazz territory.
It's impossible that VW price can be lower than Skoda.
