Introducing the Tata Indigo GSX

While at the Tata Motors showroom to look at the new Safari DICOR (read the other post to find out what DICOR is), I found a NEW INDIGO variant that is yet to be launched.

Called the GSX, it features beige interiors (dash, doors, trim, seats), leather seats, superb 14 inch alloys, blaupunkt sound, and HOLD YOUR BREATH - in dash DVD player with two 5" TFT LCD screens mounted behind the front headrests!!!

Also has nice additions like leather steering and gear knob, centre (fold down/up) arm rest for the rear seats and other goodies. Pricing expected at about Rs.75,000 more than the Indigo. Engine options are the 85 bhp petrol and the 70 bhp TDi.

Shd be great value at that price.

Although i just hope that the Tata's come with a Crdi version of their 1.4 Engine that powers the Indica and the Indigo. If that happens both the cars would be unbeatable.

They have mentioned about a complete makeover of the Indica. I wonder if it's the Crdi engine being prepared for it. I think the Indica is going stale with the ageing 1.4 Engine and lack of power and torque.

And i guess with the 20K discount which all variants of indigo diesel get, this is the best deal!

I have actually been seeing something like this on road from early 2005 .. maybe earlier ..

It's a black Indigo run by Hertz rental in Kolkata .. doesn't have the model number (GLX, GSX etc) on its boot .. It looks great with the alloys and the LCD screens etc ..

I had always thought Hertz had probably decked up the Indigo ..

So, according to you, the price of the new variant
will be in the range of 5.75 to 6L on road.
I believe the total effect will be good. However,
does it make marketing sense to launch luxury
fittings in a non-premium car? It'll be good only if
its a limited edition thing.

Hertz has probably decked it up, because this model is scheduled for a launch alongside the DICOR Safari. Dealer doesnt have specifications, so we dont know if its got ABS or other goodies.

It features a HUGE air filter, though. One with a nice transparent "indicator" on the side that turns to RED (quite like some of the tyre valve caps from Pete's Tuning) if it requires a cleanup.

It also features some nice skirting on the bumpers and the sides.

What it DOESNT have, but could do with are the wheel flares that come on the new Indica. That would make it look just right, but the dealer says he will fit those on if the customer requests for it.

There was a limited addition which was launched some time back(I think last year not sure tho) It most of the these features & instead of the DVD player it had PS2 with two screens at head rests.

I saw the GSX(Why are they going Suzuki way, bikes I mean ) in some new channel last nite, the center console looks slightly better now.

Wasnt that the Safari Limited Edition? Didnt know they had an Indigo limited edition too, but I could be wrong.

The good part is that the front bumpers are also slightly different as are the fogs. The vehicle looked quite good with the skirts and the bumper treatment, both in Pastel Yellow and in Silver - it stood out among the other Indigos, which is why I asked the dealer what that was...I had gone to look at the Safari.

Looks like a move in the right direction. Drab interiors was a let down in the Indica. DVD player sounds like a gimmick.

It doesn't have DVD but VCD player with TFT screen at the back of heard rest. Has beige interiors, beige leather upholstry - armrest in rear seat, 12 spoke alloys, front bumper like Ikon with round fog lamps, electric OVRM, heigh adjustable driver seat. crom strip on door rub rails (looks elgent) rear fog lamps, valence cover like Petra though bodu covered. door pads..beige coored with elegant fabric. Alalog clock against earlier digital. clear lens

Remote lock standard, electronic instrument cluster...overall very nice looking package.

can't think of any add-on for it other the perhaps solar film for abt 3-4 k

I am hoping for them to launch Marina SX soon, sadly Tata doesn't inform dealers of new car launches early
