Lovely write up for the legendary small car. IIRC, Tata Indica was initially code named as Tata Mint. We went to Test Drive Safari and I couldn't take my eyes off Indica, loved it's longish tail lamp assembly and I thought It was the USP for its sales. I was very excited for this car after seeing Indica's pictures and posters on Car magazines. My Dad's brother bought one of these in the initial batches. It was a great car, but felt very under powered though! Indica V2 is a beast , and a different vehicle altogether in terms of performance. Only issue with Indica is it's alternator failing everytime. I've ridden in many Indica V2 cabs attached to Uber and Ola during my college days.

Dear all,
I am not sure whether to post this message in this thread, however, thought to do so since it is concerning Indica car that I lovingly own and use since 2005.
Mine is a Tata Indica V2 DLS 2001 Model, which was a pre owned car, bought in 2005.

The car is a diesel driven vehicle, however RTO, Kolkata had mistakenly written Petrol in the R.C.Book. Had not bothered about fuel detail all these years with offline PUC, but now with online PUC facing serious problems, cannot get my PUC certificate, moreover the vehicle C.F. Date is also knocking at the door.

To change from Petrol to Diesel, RTO wants original manual book issued by Tata Motors containing vehicle, fuel details which I do not have. Alternatively, RTO will accept an email/letter from Tata Motors certifying that said car with specified Engine/ Chassis number was built as a Diesel powered vehicle.

Can anyone please help in the matter as where / how/whom to approach in Tata Motors for fetching the vehicle details.
Regards, Probhat

Just a suggestion: you may consider writing to their customer support, with scanned details of the vehicle RC and mention the VIN and engine numbers (pics of same as imprinted on vehicle and engine respectively may also help).

Request them to respond if possible, with a letter printed on their company letter-head confirming that the said vehicle with VIN and engine number combination is as per original manufacturer records and the engine fuel type.

You could also ask your nearest Tata authorised service centre to help in this process. I am sure something positive will come out of it. All the best!
