Excellent Scoop!

Thanks for the pictures. The highlights on the pictures surely suggest its the awaited Nano in the oil burner avatar. Openable hatch is a welcome move as well.

I don't think Tata have a "Release Date" for this oil burner. It may be too late and many be slightly more than "too little". I for one have been waiting for this little beast.

Would help TATA if they can discontinue Nano and bring up something else with new goals.

The power steering is made in collaboration with German parts manufacturer ZF.

From their website:

The Servolectric® electric power steering system from ZF Lenksysteme not only offers superb ride comfort and unsurpassed precision – it also reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. All in all, an electrifying power steering solution.

The maintenance-free electric power steering system is far superior to conventional hydraulic power steering. An electronically controlled electric motor replaces the hydraulic system. All of which provides much better driving handling and lower fuel consumption. After all, the Servolectric only needs energy when the driver is actually steering. Depending on the vehicle type it consumes up to 85 percent less energy than hydraulic solutions.

You can order Servolectric® in the following models:

Alfa Romeo Giulietta
Audi A3, TT, Q3
BMW 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series Gran Coupé, 7 Series, X1, X5 Hybrid, X6 Hybrid, Z4
Chevrolet Cruze, Equinox, Volt
Land Rover Range Rover, Range Rover Evoque
Mercedes-Benz CLS, E-Class, GL, GLK, M-Class
Opel Ampera, Astra, Cascada, Insignia, Zafira
Porsche Boxster, Cayman, 911
Seat Alhambra, Altea, Leon, Toledo
Skoda Octavia, Superb, Yeti
Tata Nano
Volvo S60

, unless it is launched in 1st quarter of 2014, I feel it would be a sitting duck for the new Alto, which is also coming up by 2014 end IMO, with a diesel of similar displacement & cylinders.

India is a Maruti country, & middle class would any day prefer a Maruti-Suzuki emblem over any Tom-Dick-Harry logo-ed car, however, premium the brand may be.

That is indeed a good news.

But TATA also must understand that Diesel as a fuel is loosing its sheen day by day due to reduction in price difference between diesel and petrol.

The diesel demand spurt of 2012 is history now, and it does not seem that things will change much in the near future. If TATA were to launch this car, they should do so now before its too late.

"There's an east wind(=diesel deregulation) coming, Tata Motors."

"I think not, Holmes. It is very warm."

"Good old Tata Motors! You are the one fixed point in a changing age...!"

Does it not give a boost to the petrol Nano then?

Tata: Again late for the party. By the time Nano Diesel (or even CNG) will be launched, the prices of these fuel would be almost equal to petrol.

CNG nano is already in market... one of BHP-ians in Noida has a CNG Nano. But, yes, diesel Nano is getting too late IMO & will take a beating at the hands of diesel Alto IMO.

Sorry for the ignorance, however, since the price of CNG in delhi is hovering around Rs. 60 per kg, I don't see the it helping the company & the owners much.

It is Rs.50.10/ kg (in Noida & Ghaziabad it is around Rs57-58/ kg, costliest in NCR & cheapest in Faridabad around Rs.41 till yesterday evening).

It is still more economical in city than diesel, with a mileage of 20+ km/kg for most hatches. However, it loses on the highway for lack of supply outside NCR, & obviously the boot space is gone, otherwise I get around 30 km/kg on highways.

It is not as bad as the perceptions are, & with the sequential kits, it is even better.

Hope it helps.

I think CNG Tank in Nano is under front passenger seat and not in the boot like in other cars.

However, CNG Nano's price takes CX to 2.75 L and LX to 3.0 L on road and that is the biggest killer. Edit: Plus they are offering only white and silver colours in CNG nano!

How they price diesel Nano will be a big question and will it remain as niggle free as the petrol engine would be the second thing to watch.
