Hyundai is also developing a 1.1 CRDI engine for i10. Is it the same engine?

A 1.1 Litre CRDi for the Nano? That too only 36kW from that mill? Maybe it is not turbo'ed

I am not sure if this engine will figure in the Nano at all - the engine is close to twice the size of the 624cc petrol that powers it. Weight is going to play havoc (wheelies, anyone?!) for one, and I dont think Tata will think of anything other than a 2 cylinder, less-than-26kW mill for Dieseling the Nano (26kW being the power output of the 624cc gas mill).

There seems to misunderstanding, the 1.1 is nomenclature for the fuel pump not for the engine size. Based on discussion with the BOSCH person the engine will be 600 CC only, the CRS 1.1 is for the type of the fuel pump (one plunger pump),which is way simpler compared to other CRDIs,while the fuel pressures are likely to be 1400 bar compared to higher fuel pressures in other systems.

Yes it is !

But Bullock as far as I know Tata Nano Diesel is actually two cylinder 800 cc engine. Its being developed here near my university or maybe you heard FEV motortechnik Gmbh Germany. When I went to lab I saw it, but they said they are currently working on the calibration and this is a direct injection engine. It features a turbocharger also, I guess they are planning this variant for european market also.

People here were very tight lipped and I cant even take cameras to those places in order to grab a picture !

I think the Cubic Capacity of the engine in development for Nano should be lower, if its CRDI its ought to be turbocharged as well, That may jack the prices quite a lot.

36KW = 48bhp, And a lot more torque. I dont think Tata would make the car this powerful just because of the handling issues. It surely will be detuned.

Another issue might be the heavier diesel engine might spoil the already rear heavy weight ratio. Lets keep the fingers crossed for now.

True. The diesel Nano features a 800 CC CRDI two cylinder engine with a balancer shaft to take care of vibrations just like the petrol version has.

2 cyinder diesel engine !

No thanks ! I seriously doubt its performance.

Nano is good for a petrol or a battery operated car.

Does some one remember all the ratting issues that came with the indica diesel when it was launched.

Wonder how the nano's body would take a diesel engine ?

If a three cylinder diesel is good enough for the Fabia, I dont see why you are doubting a 2 cylinder CRDi diesel in the Nano.

Isn't that the reason why its coming with a small capacity diesel engine?
