re: Renault Duster. EDIT : Now confirmed for India!

Good on the announcements. Nothing on the service centers! Need to come up something on those lines as well.

re: Renault Duster. EDIT : Now confirmed for India!

the comparo in terms of height, to the swift, is similar to other comparisons made, between the wagonR and the Yeti.

one thing is that if the vehicle is indeed not so tall, then its handling is likely to be much better.the scorpio which is a tall vehicle tends to pitch like the blazes when going around curves. the Bolero handles better around curves than the Scorpio does. Would be interesting to see the difference between the Bolero height and the Duster height.

the rest of the size specs seem pretty much good enough for an utilitarian urban SUV. in particular i am interested in the interior design which on account of the vehicle width, should be interesting - i hope, like the scorpio, its luggage bay is nice and wide and can fit all manner of paraphernalia. it is designed to be a 5 seater after all. the wheelbase is almost the same, but I guess as the magazine articles say, since the tyres are the standard 15 inchers, it is more suited to car like duties in the cit, but is yet capable of some off road activity. Would like to know about its kerb weight in comparison to the scorpio because I find the scorpio quite heavy and this alone would be a bit of a deterrent for off road slush pits and so on. the ground clearance of 210mm is the same as that of the gypsy so no worries there.
most interesting thing about this would be its level of interior fit and finish, in comparison with the scorpio, plus its level of safety kit, 4WD and other things - all at a (hopefully) very competitive price!
really would like to see this vehicle in the flesh as it were. the key to the Duster's success of course, as has been quoted ad nauseam, is their pricing + after sales service network.

re: Renault Duster. EDIT : Now confirmed for India!

A 16inch of tyres should be possible.

And they should have brought in the duster before the Koleos. Thats because Koleos against the big-wigs, while Dacia would have a different territory and hence would have a good chance to succeed and take the lead market pie.
Who knows. by next year if others arrive, sector snapshot would be different.

Having said that, no Ford next year it seems. @Mustang mentioned no Kuga or Ecosport next year. Maybe 2013.

re: Renault Duster. EDIT : Now confirmed for India!

compare Bolero & Scorpio to Duster just for interest:
Duster while being more compact, looks like it will have better handling overall and on account of its high GC, should be able to tackle most Indian road obstacles!

Bolero:
Length 4080 mm
Width 1745 mm
Height 1880 mm
Wheelbase 2680 mm
Ground Clearance 180 mm

Scorpio:
Length 4430 mm
Width 1817 mm
Height 1975 mm
Wheelbase 2680 mm
Ground Clearance 180 mm

Duster:
Length 4315 mm
Width 1821 mm
Height 1631 mm
Wheelbase 2672 mm
Ground Clearance 210 mm

re: Renault Duster. EDIT : Now confirmed for India!

If they priced 4X4 1.6 diesel below 10 lakh, it will kill all the 4 wheel drive in India. As it is compact and the engine is low capacity, we can expect the price to be low.

In Europe Renault is much better in terms of quality and reliability compare to Fiat.

re: Renault Duster. EDIT : Now confirmed for India!

Thanks Pawan for this video. Awesome piece of work the Duster is.. Now I'm 100% decided this is going to be my next upgrade!
(He He .. spotted this car's awesome potential for India early on.. that's why I started the thread!)

When this launches , it's going to be a fight to the finish with the mini-xylo - the other possible launch that can really shake things up and out..
cheers!

Oh.. is it ? This video shows the awesome capability of the vehicle. I am supposed to buy a car in end of 2011, was thinking of new Fiesta but Duster creates confusion.

Add me to it ! Those are the exact two items on my agenda as well. But since I have more time (mid next year), I am more hopeful of Duster.

It fits my needs perfectly.

re: Renault Duster. EDIT : Now confirmed for India!

This is my gateway to NIRVANA. It ticks so many of my boxes that if it was a women I would marry her!! Ohh I will wait for it if need be. But if they exceed 10 lakhs OTR price, then its a crash of a dream.

re: Renault Duster. EDIT : Now confirmed for India!

Will all the boxes ticked (4x4, ABS, Airbags, etc.), the diesel will surely go above 10 lakhs OTR.

Do note that they are testing petrol variants as well, so IMHO, the 7 lakh should be the entry point, that too ex showroom of the basic 4x2 petrol.

re: Renault Duster. EDIT : Now confirmed for India!

Even if the highest end diesel tops off at 11-12 I would say, it would be well worth the price. Only thing to see would be how do they justify the price in terms of its ownership (after sales network, reliability, longevity etc). And that only time can tell.
