The DTU Defianz vehicle is powered by a 600 cc CBR engine.

Sadly, some of the best projects of our college were not showcased (politics?).

Good stuff from the other colleges. Congrats to all participants on completed builds and best wishes for upcoming events.

Hey Raj,

Do put in some info on the spool-drive.
- How many other cars run a system like that at the competition?
- Also, how do you plan to get around the disadvantages due to the lack of differential?

Ess, if you look at the pic this is clearly a single cylinder. I think you might be talking about another FSAE car built by DCE/DTU.

Hmmm, well i also doubt more than one vehicle would be able to fit in the stall they had

What are these projects you mentioned? Could you link to them or even create threads if you have enough info....?

One of the most interesting threads of the Auto Expo section. Its fantastic to see the effort put in by these students. Their know how is second to none. These are the same guys you would see making the BMWs, Porsches and Mercs of the future. Neat coverage Rehaan. This gets a 5 star rating from me.

Members whose cars are featured here, please share more info on your projects. Your perspective would make a great reading and learning experience for us.

Interesting stuff! I'm frankly amazed by the diligence and sweat that people have pumped into these projects in order to conceptualize their efforts! Kudos to everyone who played a part in these projects! You'll deserve a pat on the back!

Hi rehaan,

as far as i know, no other indian teams have used a spool drive in their car till now.

secondly, we were aware of the disadvantages of the spool drive as compared to a differential but it was used in our car mainly for-
1) innovation (!!!)
2) weight reduction
3) cost reduction (most important!)

to compensate for the differential action, we have used soft compound tyres with higher slip angles to give the car maximum cornering ability.

First of these guys have really done an awesome job. I hope we get to see more of these projects being appreciated.

@Mods: i think we need to have a separate thread for such projects and automotive technology being developed by college students, Because we have so many vetrans from the Auto industry on the forum, it will help them get better insights from them. And maybe even funding

Great thread

What an amazing thread!

The brilliance and the hard work of the students of various institutes is heartening. And interest shown by hard core enthusiasts is also commendable!

I hope that some of these designs and models get noted by auto manufactures. That would help a long way in getting the best talent and best designs to the common people!

I'm quite interested to see how this works in reality. Have you tested it a lot? Is the car very noisy (tyre squeal) when cornering?

Would like to see a video. Perhaps we can continue this in your dedicated thread : here

Ajay, we do already have many of these threads - quite a few of which are linked to from this thread.

However, we need more interest from our members as well in order to keep those threads alive and keep the posters motivated to keep sharing info and pics of their progress

The 'Atom' shown here looks very similar to a model called 'Unt' which was also an Indian design about 10 years back. It was a solar powered vehicle if I remember right. Tried to google some info, but there is nothing relevant.
