Re: The "Discovery Turbo" thread - A 24 hour automotive channel now on Indian TV

Hi folks missed this thread where I should be there, now being at home for a while atleast I watch 8 hrs of Turbo, I love
Wheeler Dealers: restoring and selling the classic cars with a limited budget. This episode gives you the knowledge of what to buy, how to fix it, and sell it for profit.

British biker build off: This is a lovely episode by Britt people crafting beautiful english bikes which is pure magic. These people are way different from the Americans.

Overhaulin: This episode is all fun with suspense, vehicle restored in a modern way with limited deadline of time by famous car designer Mr.Chip Foose, jaw dropping makeover. The vehicle owner is not aware of the makeover because the near and dear ones wanted to give a surprise to the owner and the car is taken away on some or the other reason i.e, stolen to overhaul.

I believe this channel is the proper food for our passion and there is lot more for you.

Re: The "Discovery Turbo" thread - A 24 hour automotive channel now on Indian TV

Well its been almost an year I put Discovery Turbo and every day there is a fight for Remote . Earlier Automotive Stuff on TLC (discovery channel) was limited to 1 or 2 hrs, managable.

But now a 18 hrs. Channel (18 hrs. cause few weeks ago I woke up in the night to watch turbo and there was this thing called tele shopping). I think this comes for 6 hrs. in the night.

Any way. There is a very good program on wednesday nights -

1. 21:00 to 22:00 Hrs. Motor City Motors, where they build wierd contraptions around Automobiles.

2. 22:00 to 22:30 hrs. Kit - An Autobody experience, where they build kit cars from doner vehicles. Just love the way they do it.

Coming wednesday they are going to Build a Hot Rod from the 30's Ford kit.

Do you guys actually enjoy this channel? I found it better to name this as "Discovery Garage" as most of the programs are on modifications or restoration of cars. Rarely seen something on the road or even good road tests or comparisons of new cars. Very disappointing for me.

Well in that case I would say you have not watched the channel truly. Cause

1. 5th Gear - Where they test the Road Cars.

2. Then there is Expensive Rides - where they test and review expensive vehicles.

3. famous marques - where they review a famous manufacturer and give history about their famous models, testdrive and user experience.

4. Then there are programs on devlopment of cars. on Racing on Boats and Planes. Lot of stuff.

my favourites:
- Fifth Gear
- Rides
- Overhaulin

The Marques is another fantastic programme. I feel amazed, astonished to see the cars in such a finest condition. The best I've seen is the Rolls Royce, Triumph and MG.

Have you seen the Dolomite car it is nothing less than a Dianamite..

Another best episode is the one where the where this guy helps people restoring their fav cars, SUV's and trucks. I feel like joining them and doing the resto.

Good point, in the beginning it was fun to watch but there are way too many garage type programs for my liking and worse they focus on the politics and 'forced' pettiness of reality type shows, making it little to do with automobiles.

Fifth gear is the only thing I occasionally watch if I am surfing and happen to see it. Or else it mostly the highly irritating west coast custom or some equally ridiculous mod kind of program and endless ads promoting these in between.

Its a pain really, but I am sure there are folks who will like the garage modification kind of content, so maybe this will cater to them rather than the more general automobile fan.

Re: The "Discovery Turbo" thread - A 24 hour automotive channel now on Indian TV

I would Partly agree and partly disagree. Because yes some programs are boring, repeated and fabricated (i.e. being told to do so) (example being Chop Shop).

But then there are plenty of other Programs which are awesome. Overhauling, 5th Gear, Top Marques, Amrican Chopper, Expensive rides and lot of other stuff is good too.

Infact whenever I see 5th Gear I normally switch the channel (boring for me). Only yesterday they were driving F60 and McLaren F1 Road Car I watched the show thill that only .

Off Topic: I hope every one is aware of Chop Shop and Leepu. Do any one know the fate of his cars. Are they mechanically sound. Looks are a matter of individual taste, some like some don't.

But just go through the below websites we might ger an answer

Santa Pod’s Podzilla Monster Truck to flatten the ‘Chop Shop Gangster Car’ - VZi, Europe's largest VW, community and sales

Chop Shop Capri for sale on fleabay

I watch this on my Hathway cable. Do you have an STB on Hathway? In that case, I think it is on channel 505, or somewhere around. Try it out. Not worth taking a DTH connection for watching this channel, IMO. I had a TSky, but discontinued it since I get all that channels and much more on my cable @200 per month.

By cable do you mean local cable or with cable with a set-top box. If it is set top box, that is very good in quality and competitive in price.

yeah, we had the STB on Hathway, but still didn't get many channels, one of them was Discovery Turbo.

when we moved into our new flat, the cable guys didn't show any interest in getting us connected. hence, went for Tata Sky+ after a lot of deliberation. also, another problem with local cable is during power cuts, the cable is gone and since we have a UPS in our new home, i thought DTH was a sensible investment.

Even I get discovery turbo on channel 504 on our Hathway with STB. The cable guy came and note down the number on STB and activated the channel within minutes.

I agree with you Manish many of the programmes are repeated till the tape burns out, but sometime its good to see. I hate to see the CHOP SHOP and the guy Nizamuddin Leep Awlia is a worst modifier one can get, he is awesome in spoiling every angle and every possible way, I doubt the quality of those vehicle the way he makes them is absolute irreliable. He is putting peoples life in a risk and don't understand why the authorities allow him to do so.

I also dont understand the cars which he brings to make them what he calls the awesome makeover are certified as total loss or have met with a severe accident, how come the authorities allow people like these to work on them and run on roads.

Re: The "Discovery Turbo" thread - A 24 hour automotive channel now on Indian TV

The two new programmes Wrecks to Riches, Hunt for classics are going to be more fun.

Wrecks to Riches has already caught my attention wherein they recycle the cars, this gives a chance to understand how they work on the cars, the way they look at cars, working within a budget, keeping the guidelines, rules in mind etc.

Hunt for Classics. My assumptions are there should be lot of barn findes, yester years glories lying in a closed garage, it should be fun.
