Sales figures of the Swift clearly show what Indians were waiting for. Interior space isn't great, but, otherwise the car is a fine package.

Hey guys, tBHP COTY is also BSM COTY 2006! See today's issue of Business Standard!!

Congrats, Swift! Great show, Maruti Suzuki!! Three cheers to tBHPians for thinking as professionals do!!!

I booked a swift when it was launched ...frustrated by the long waiting period , cancelled the booking and purchased an Innova. My vote went for Swift ..and if I were to buy a hatch now , i will still go for Swift.

the Innova is the COTY for me !

imho i would rate the ford fiesta duratorq as the car of thr year 2005.i dont think swift shud win is cos the only good thing about is its design..the engine is a decade old esteem engine, uneven panel gaps.whereas ford fiesta has everything goin for it...the look is pleasant, the diesel engine is very f.e.,petrol engine is powerful, fords build quality is exceptional, ride and handling are good.

and not to forget the the abs, climate control and srs airbags coupled to gorgeous looks and high revving engine makes for a extremely superb value for money package.

Almos Ditto. Just that I wont put Innova as the most practical car.

Its Innova for me ... i donno but I like that car and good to see 2 Hyundais in the list and both of them are great competators.

where can i check results for the last year poll ??

actually i dont think these cars should be compared with each other. But what the heck..i vote for the embera. Although it was a close call between the innova and hyundai!

Swift won team-bhp car of year, OD, ACI, TG, Viewers Choice, Japans, UKs car of the year goes to show how like minded people all of us are..clap:

I like the swift very much i own it also. The only minus is the mileage 12-13 km/lt. This is a little less but everything else is supreb. I have zxi cool car

From Autocar India April issue:

The first Indian Car of the Year Award has just been announced. Almost
all Indian Auto magazine Editors and their second-in-commands
(including Editors/SICs of Autocar India, Business Standard Motoring,
Top Gear, Car India, Overdrive and The Auto Magazine (the jury had a
cumulative experience of around 150 years in driving and evaluating
cars) got together for a couple of days recently to evaluate the
Hyundai Sonata Embera, the Hyundai Tucson, the Skoda Laura, the Ford
Fiesta, the Maruti Swift and the Toyota Innova.

Here's what Autocar India says:
"The ICOTY award is unique in the sense that it's an independent,
non-profit jury, wherein the publications themselves fund and organise
the award. The evaluations involved a 150-km drive over varied
surfaces and points were awarded immediately after the drive. While
specific points were taken into account, what the eds and their men
looked for was the overall driving experience"

And the winner? "Folks, pat the Maruti Swift on the back one more time."

The report goes on to say: "...the Swift popped up at the top on
nearly every jury member's list. What also appealed to the jury was
the fact that the car packed itself with credentials on the
drivability and economy fronts, and it was solidly built too."

The Toyota Innova came a close second.
