Re: Mahindra to launch Korando and Rexton

I was also told at the M&M dealership, that, 5-seater version of Xylo is also going to out soon. Not sure what is the take and pricing on that.

Re: Mahindra to launch Korando and Rexton

Well its really confusing to see where Mahindra is going with so many products in same segment. Leaving apart the Xylo since its a MUV I see following products in the SUV range-
1. Bolero
2. Scorpio
3. Korando
4. Rexton
5. W201
Have I missed any? Apart from the Bolero that is very basic and utilitarian I see other products prety much pitching against each other.

Re: Mahindra to launch Korando and Rexton

Shankar's post on the Dacia thread sums it up pretty well.

Just re-producing the same here for reading convenience.

Quote:
So here goes my submission.
Duster Top end with 4x4 and all safety features - 11-12 lacs OTR BLR
Scorpio Top end -13.5 -14 lacs OTR BLR
Safari Top end - 14 lacs OTR BLR
Korando Top end -15-16 lacs OTR BLR
New Mahindra W201 Top end version - 16-17 lacs OTR BLR (to me, this looks very likely because they will benchmark their World SUV against the ARIA.)
Tata Aria - 19.6 lacs OTR BLR.

If the pricing does work out more or less like this, then the Duster will simply eat up the Safari and Scorpio Market. I truly hope it does come in at around this price.
I am really looking forward to this vehicle. I m sort of thinking it would be just perfect for my kind of requirements. The Duster is a perfect 5 seater SUV with plenty of luggage space. Diesel driven with 110 PS is more than sufficient for my needs as Im not out to beat some land speed records. The Tyre size at 215/65/16 may be a bit small but I think will do. However one can always go for an one level upsize to 235 size. It will really give us a very good VFM option. I think we can easily expect the reliability, VFM and overall toughness which the Logan gave us.

Re: Mahindra to launch Korando and Rexton

@Ashiutosh,

Taking forward the pricing discussion on this thread (rather than the Dacia thread).
As you mentioned, Goenka quoting that Korando would be priced higher than W201, my take is should it not be the Rexton instead?

If we are talking Korando (5 seater) in the range 17-20, Rexton would be even higher. If that is that is the case, then folks would rather buy Fortuner and not these ones.

Some how Korando for me should peak at 16-17 OTR for the highest end and not more.

Re: Mahindra to launch Korando and Rexton

will quote myself on this again

Duster 7-12-14 ish max
scorpio OTR BLR - 8 -15.5 for top end
safari 8-15.5
new Force SUV 8-12
New Safari/ Merlin - 10-16 ish because its new
Korando 12-15 max
W201-14-18 max
Koleos 18-22 ish max
Rexton etc 18-22 ish max

one thing is for sure the Skoda Yeti will get further marginalized with all these beasts coming in.
and the used market will suddenly perk up with lots of interesting used SUV's.
maybe this is a good time to consider used SUV's because some other mug would have taken the depreciation hit and the used SUV buyer will benefit in this way.

if the M&M's of the world go over this kind of pricing there will suddenly be a glut of the overpriced SUV's in the marketplace.

Korando - 12-15 lacs - to offer an option and possibly take away market share from Safari, proposed Renault Duster and others (the downside is some amount of cannibalization of Scorpio)
W201 -15-18 lacs - to offer an option of an SUV to potential buyers of ARIA, Endy and possibly Yeti etc.
Rexton-20-22 lacs - to offer an option to Captiva, T Fort and Pajero buyers.

Having said all this their quality of fit, finish, execution, sales, service and after sales service has to be super tops, for consumers to continue to believe and go with their products. They also need to learn some amount of flexibility in their approach to consumer requirements. The importance of function over form, is something they will also do well to remember.

Re: Mahindra to launch Korando and Rexton

ACI has reported about the sightings of SsangYong’s Rexton in Chakan, Maharashtra. Here is the report:

http://www.autocarindia.com/news/ssa...exton-spy-pics

At the same time Motoroids have also posted an article about the SUV being sighted (alongwith interior pictures & detailed report on the specs), which is as under:

Exclusive: Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton spied and dissected inside out!

Both the reports point to 2.7 L mill displacing at least 162 BHP & ~340 NM torque for he vehicle. I refer Motoroids report for more + better images & detailed listing of the features.

Re: Mahindra to launch Korando and Rexton

good scoop especially the Motoroids one
no doubt that this will give things like the Captiva, CRV, Outlander, Santa Fe, Yeti and certainly the big beast Fortuner even a good run for their money! Pajero, Endy etc may as well shut shop now because hardly anyone will bother with them any more given this new breed of beasts which are more comfy with their monocoque chassis and excellent, modern interior quality, spec levels and overall feel good factor.
It is clearly going to be tough going now onwards for even the Aria and the W201 unless they do some magical changes in pricing!

Lets hope the Korando C and the Duster etc dont disappoint both on trim, quality, spec levels and pricing levels. Finally we Indians may get a whole range of good modern vehicles in the SUV bracket which we can choose from depending on inclination and budget.

Re: Mahindra to launch Korando and Rexton

Some more news on the Rexton for India from Rushlane. Its actually an article for Rexton in Uk but also mentions India. Putting the excerpt here. Link below.

The SsangYong Rexton SUV will not debut as a premium product in the UK auto market but its dynamics change in India where the premium SUV will be pitted against The Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Outlander, Ford Endeavour and Honda CRV. A five speed automatic gearbox is expected, and the SsangYong Rexton SUV for the Indian auto market will be powered by a 2.7 liter five-cylinder turbo-diesel motor that records 162bhp.

Re: Mahindra to launch Korando and Rexton

the latest Autocar carries a snippet about some Rextons being tested in India. This might be Mahindra's answer to the Santa Fe's, Koleos's and X Trails of the world methinks!
They also mentioned in the snippet that the Korando is likely to be launched prior to the Rexton but they havent said when this is likely to happen. If this is indeed the case, then why are M&M not testing the Korando instead of the Rexton?
The Korando may be positioned equivalent to or even a little above their own homegrown XUV500 I think.
If all this happens over the next one year then the Indian SUV buyer will finally have some choice in the "fair priced" segment - 10-15 lacs.

Re: Mahindra to launch Korando and Rexton

The Rexton front grill and headlights resemble Mercedes'. If I recollect correctly, Ssangyang made Mercedes-licensed vehicles.

Re: Mahindra to launch Korando and Rexton

yes Ssangyong Rexton is an old Merc design - engine too.
and this is the first time that Im hearing first half 2012 as a possible launch date for any M&M Ssangyong.
It will be good if it happens but I dont think they will have enough time with their XUV500 and mini xylo etc happening now.
in any case they take absolutely ages in their testing and confirmations before they launch anything and by the time they actually launch a lot of people (including me) are quite exasperated with the extreme delays!
