NOTE : This report was actually compiled on the evening of 12th January, 2015.

Mumbai was probably the first city to witness organised drag racing, but eventually the drag scene died out. Credit must be given to Elite Octane for organising the Valley Run once again since 2013 for us enthusiasts. In its third season, the valley run witnessed a healthy turnout of both participants as well as viewers. Do keep in mind, it was held on the same day as the Parx SuperCar Show in Mumbai. Not only this, the event was held at the Aamby Valley airstrip which is around 2-3 hrs from the closest cities of Mumbai & Pune. The event was held over 2 days i.e. 10 - 11 January, 2015.

Team-BHP was invited for the event, and BHPian Tushar & I have covered it on day 2.

GOT BHP? These cars are all about high power figures and lowered weight.

Joel Joseph's City dropped around 140-150 kgs in weight and churns out 350 whp!




Bhpian Ford Rocam's sleeper City. This one too produces 350 bhp:

Madhu's NOS City dropped around 200 kgs in weight and had an aero kit for drag reduction. Power output was undisclosed. It raced an R 35 Nissan GT-R but unfortunately broke down at the start line. We were really rooting for this one to be a highlight:

Naturally aspirated City with 120 bhp at the wheels, a close-ratio gearbox and around 100 kgs of weight shaved off:

I thought it was just a small car, but Zen I realized this was an insane machine - 140 bhp at the wheels coming from a twin-cam Baleno engine and around 80 kgs of weight knocked off:

Exotics at drag events remain the crowd magnets and every time they rev, the cheer from the crowd gets louder. This event was no different. The icing on the cake was to see and hear them tear up the quarter mile .

Can't say i like them, but this alloy design has always fascinated me. It's like a boolean subtraction of one alloy design from another, and this paint job illustrates this perfectly! It looks like two different designs super-imposed on each other.

Definitely one of my favourite soundtracks!! The new AMGs cant exactly match the N/A sound.

Any idea what mounts were used for the GoPro on The Saints Polo. It seems to have so many linkages, wonder how the linkages survives such speeds.

I would choose this event, cause there are bikes too!!!
Bu then LaFerrari is something not to be missed, and there's no certainty that it would feature again in India

Thanks Somil for the awesome pictures and report. I'd definitely choose this over the Supercar Rally any day. Although I got many pics from my friend present at the event, I was waiting for this thread..

A few questions:

1. There is a pic of the HP4(my favorite SBK). How did it fare in the drag? Which was the fastest bike out there?

2. A couple of days back, I was driving behind this white GT-R right from marine drive upto Worli sea face. It didn't sport the "Alpha" (AMS) badge then. How much power does it produce? I don't think it is as powerful as the other grey one with black bonnet.

3. Which was the fastest car and superbike of the entire event?

4. The turnout was affected because of the supercar rally, or it wasn't? I heard this time it wasn't as happening as last time, or was it?

Yup, it still belongs to Ford Rocam. He went up against a 911 Turbo. Was soooo looking forward to this race. Unfortunately, due to an electrical issue, he couldn't rev beyond 3,000/4,000 RPM.

Even Madhu's City went up against the GT-R but during launch itself there was a small little explosion from under his hood which we could clearly see thanks to the scooped bonnet.

Gave a glimpse to the dark side of tuning.

The GT-R driver was slow off the line with a reaction time of 1.716 seconds. But guess what, his elapsed time was 10.396 seconds with an exit speed of 200.48 km/hr - the fastest among cars. The 911 on the other hand did the quarter mile in 11.507 seconds with an exit speed of 195.28 km/hr.

Murcielago did the quarter mile in 11.223 seconds with an exit speed of 195.23 km/hr.

Nope. The Saint did manage to get some videos of his runs. He will be the better person to answer your question.

The problem was that the timings weren't disclosed after every run, leaving all participants wishful till the last moment. Will update you as soon as I know.

Fastest car was the GT-R with the timing as mentioned above (in this post).

Fastest bike (not sure which) clocked a time of 9.769 seconds with a top speed of 233.62 km/hr. Will get you more details as soon as I get updated.

BHPian fieroid's City clocked 12.382 seconds with an exit speed of 182.36 km/hr and he also won the 'Best Tuner of the Event' in the Indian car category.

Before reaching the location I thought the same too but there was a very decent turn out of crowd and participants. I can't compare it to the previous year's event as I hadn't witnessed it but apart from the super long delays, I'd say that this one was a success.

Hi All,
Just by posting a photo/video or two of the practise run doesn't really prove and show that a GTR can lose to any car. It hasn't attained the world-wide title of "GODZILLA" just like that....What stands as evidence in black & white is the timing slip which is generated as soon as the vehicle breaks the beam at the 400m mark.
Just for everyones info & record, this was the same stunt tried out, and a subject of massive unwanted discussion even when the Orange GTR from Hyderabad banged the daylights out of everyone.
