@ vampire : Welcome to the different part of Team Bhp. No offense to anyone in particular but if vampire is willing to take the risks then why not encourage him. In India we have left the experimentation to the guys with money only. And the rest learn from his experience (read mistakes and problems). Why cant a guy who wants to try things out just do it. Why should we behave like crabs and not let the other one get out of the mud?

I know many of you might report my post for infractions but things are just too harsh for people who want to do something in life. If one is willing to take the risk knowing well what the negative outcome could be then why stop him having his/ her moment in life?

@vampire, i think last year someone (dont remember who) with a stock santro went to the raid.

To be very clear its not the car that should be questioned, it is the preparation. If people in the west could rally around the world with the old generation Mini Cooper then why not a santro?

I think this is the third time i'm mentioning it that if you are based in kolkata, i will take you to the right person who will make sure your car is ready for the raid or the desert storm. If you are based out of kolkata i would suggest you visit some experienced tuners and then decide based on their versions of pros and cons.

Vampire have you cancelled your plans or going ahead with them ?

I know many people will advocate that it is better to have your own experience and in some cases is true but not in all where the risks are too high.

@sudev. I kept telling the officials to come and check the car. They spent the whole day sleeping at their office and when the co-driver got into a problem, they were there to tell me, Just Park the car in Park Ferme as it was a Five Minute Job to get Official Nod. The Officials were sitting in a Hotel just few kilometers from the Service Point. They were sitting in AC while we were dying in the sun for no reason whatsoever.

btw when did I say all Officials are bad but they can be bad, can't they ?

Interesting... Vampire, take your own call. Rallying is a sport for the passionate, and yes, for the one's with large pockets too.

It does bring one a lot of happiness and pleasure, as people like Sudev have been telling you. Please understand that people like him and me have spent enjoying every bit this sport throws up since the past 20+ years. Rallying is a part of our lives, and I sure do thank God often for letting us being a part of this amazing sport. Talking about sport...Ernest Hemingway once said: "There are only three true sport in this world; mountaineering, bull-fighting and motor sport..the rest are just games.

Gotcha?

Hi Alok,

You need to apply for Grade C, Rallying, for the FMSCI drivers license. Also u need an FMSCI 4W Entrant license.

The must haves that u have mentioned are fine but would like to add to the list.

Must Have
1. RollCage (safety is what it gives you first and then vehicle rigidity & balance. so it should be at the top of your list.)
2. Extra Fuel tank
3. Sump & Petrol Tank Gaurd etc.
4. Hardtop/ Rally Cabin
5. Extra spare wheel and tyre.

Optional
1. 4 point seat belt racing seats etc

The gypsy will go through the raid with its current stock suspension setup, but it would be better if u can fit 2 shocks per wheel. Check if this is permissible in the Adventure category and if it fits your budget.

Thanks! NOS for your valuable inputs, pls clarify which Entrant license I need to apply along with driver liscense as there are 2 categories.

Source- FMSC

1. for Clubs TSD

2. For Competition

Since the adventure category is TSD pattern so I am wondering whether I really need to apply for competition one.

Cheers!

Alok, you need to apply for the Competition 4W entrant license as the Clubs TSD is for rallies within the city or within a very controlled environment. The Raid and Desert Storm are specialised competition events for which you need the competition entrant as well as drivers license to compete. Also you will need additional rally/motorsport insurance coverage for your vehicle plus personal accident insurance for yourself and your navigator.
