Porsche 997 Turbo: Its back...and its better than ever.

Porsche has unleashed the new gen 911 turbo. They have also achieved a first by putting TWO VGTs(for petrols that is) on the new car.

480 HP@6000 rpm
460 lb-ft (624 N-m) from 1950 RPM (685 with overboost- a special feature on the ECU controlled VGTs)

0-100 kph in 3.4 secs

check it out at http://www.porsche.com/all/masterwerk/usa.aspx

Enjoy......

The 3.4 time is not right, you can check world car fans.com I think the 3.4 was a miss print, someone while putting in the time mistook 3.9 for 3.4 cuz 9 and 4 can look very similar...

its 0-100 in 3.9 with mannual and 3.7 with triptonis and S package.

but its a phenominal package none the less...

This is what porsche fans everywhere have been waiting for!

I'm glad they didnt even try to come close to the power put out by the Cayenne Turbo S. Just shows how serious porsche is about making brilliant cars, no nonsense. Period.

I wonder if they will put out a 911 Turbo S sometime in the future though? any talk of it?

Quite an epic website too (saw the high bandwith version), make sure you check out the brake animation.

Really waiting for some magazine / autoshow reviews now!!

I love those front LED turn signals. Hope they also come out with GT2 version with RWD.

They have added small add ons which have come a long way in making the 911 an even better looking car. The alloys for one r my fav, the rear spoiler is just perfect-blends well and sporty, the air dams add to the mean look and ofcourse those signal LED's just fit right.
I am pretty sure it will make it to mumbai roads soon enuf.

Actually that was the only part that i was like ppfffffrt at in the video because they say
**in deep announcer voice**
"Particularly striking are the high performance LED direction indicators"

Man that flash intro/video is cool....Go inside the cabin and view the video for the
"Sport chrono package"

Sport mode spools up ~2.9 psi more on the turbos resulting in 45lb-ft more of torque amongst other things. (Overboost instead of afterburner)

ps - i know the first post in this thread shows a 25lb-ft difference with sport mode, but its actually till 505lb-ft (45lb-ft more), porsche_fan?

pps - oh baby baby baby!!

This is just so cool!
Porsche made the Carrera S and said there was no need for a 4WD version. Still, they went ahead and made it and it turned out to be eve better.
And now this! The level of perfection that Porsche have achieved with their old "ill-handling" layout is mind blowing. Only Porsche is capable of such engineering.
480bhp, 457lb ft, 0-60mph in 3.7secs, Max 193mph
Price: $122,900.
While the others think of plonking big engines with huge power in their cars, Porsche have given us the perfect sports coupe by fine tuning their age old formula.

in this car Porsche(or BW) has achieved an engineering marvel as far as the turbos are concerned.
max torque from 1950 rpm onwards...thats what can propel a 6 cylinder 3.6 L to 0-100 in just 0.3 secs slower than a 6.0L V-12 .....

even Jeremy Clarkson, who is a self confessed Porsche hater said that the 996 turbo was the best car VFM sports car to buy.

Wonder what he'll say about this one??!!!

Fine the looks, the wheels everythins perfect, good looking.........however you would want to express yourself.
But this car marks Porsche's 100 years of turbocharging. In October 1974 Stuttgart launched the world's first production sports car with a turbocharger, since then its just been a benchmark of turbo engineering.
Now here is a car which has evolved ever since its birth and has now matured even more with the use of VTG(Variable turbine geometry).
VTG is most important in the elimination of "turbo lag",cross-sectional changes are made by resetting the turbine blades (smaller contact surface at low speeds, larger contact surface at high speeds),hence increases engine power, increases throttle response, can also have a beneficial effect on particulate emissions, and the supreme level of torque is now maintained consistently throughout a much wider speed range.

Ok, so obviously I'm in love with it. Was waiting for some numbers at the 'Ring before I posted. Here they go:
7:40 at the 'Ring as tested by Motortrend, with Michelin Cup Sport tyres and with all the stuff that keeps the Swiss bankers happy. To put into perspective how fast that is, The SLR McLaren was clocked at the exact same time by Klaus Ludwig of Autobild, the F430 was clocked at 7:55 by SportAuto and HvS. The C6 Z06 supposedly did it in 7:42.9 by Sportbilen. Of course, factory test drivers will definitely be quite a bit faster. Still waiting for those.

Now waiting for 1Day to start his whole "Z06 is a whole load cheaper than the 997 Turbo" argument!

Ok you just said it..7:40 on cup tires, do you know what cup tires can do? the actual timing for this car has been put up as 7:50ish not 7:40, you save a good 10secs with those tires, it was not the stock car that was tested on the ring, so there you go..if you put these tires on Z06..the carerra GT would have a hard time proving to the world its a great car..

and I didnt even think about the cheaper aspect..I love the new porsche..but lets face it..its a hell of a lot of money and porsche hasnt given much for the money..its definetly not 2x worth the Z06 sorry bud...

If i have the money i would get both along with a F430 and DB9 Convert...but for now I am looking to get the Z06 soon cuz thats a car 99.9% of the cars cant touch today..
