^^ yeah! even that was my first impression, it was looking like Ritz, infact if it were not for the greater glass area behind, it would in fact look like a Ritz! A great scoop!!

I have a doubt, how do we get to know that it is a test mule? To my eyes the pics just look like a Polo!!

After seeing how VW camoflagued the Vento to look like a Ford, I wouldn't be surprised if the back looks entirely different in reality compared to the spy pics.

Latest Update: The entry level hatch is expected to have a price of €10,000. as it can’t price it under the Polo and manage a sensible margin selling it. Up/Lupo! might come, it might not come.

Latest scoop: Test models we spied here were all 3-door variants, we hear a 5-door, and maybe even a sedan, are in the works. Now question is when it's going to launch in india.?

Re: Spied: Volkswagen Up! test mule

those pics in black camo, give it a profile of daihatsu sirion.

i think a five door hatch would be a more practical option for india compared to the 3 door hatch for europe.

Budget VWs are very much in the pipeline for India. And yes, I'd say 1 year is definitely a ballpark figure. I'd say around 2012, we're likely to see a few VW models, smaller than the Polo, on our roads.

Re: Spied: Volkswagen Up! test mule

Manager Magazine has reported that an affordable car for China, India and Brazil next year will be based on the Up! series and cost 6,000 Euros (3.83 lakh rupees). As the debut of the Lupo (hatchback of the Up! series) nears, speculation is rife about it arriving here in 2012 with a 800cc petrol engine and 1.2-liter diesel engine.

IAB readers will know that VW has dropped plans to sell rebadged Marutis in India and the new small car will have the “Volkswagen” name in block letters at the rear similar to the Polo and Vento. The Lupo will be seen for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year.

A number of models are planned on the Up! platform and the possibility of a car under the Polo is exciting news to VW fanboys.

The Lupo was caught testing along with its cousins from Skoda (Youngster) and Seat (Arosa) earlier this year. The model will be presented in both 3- and 5-door forms. Over the next few years we’re expecting to see hybrid and electric powertrains on the Up! family.

A sedan on this platform can help Volkswagen capture a good market share in the Dzire/Etios category and a mini SUV on the low-cost Up! platform will enable them to price it under 10 lakh rupees.

Re: Spied: Volkswagen Up! test mule

The competition is going to get tougher for the usual suspects (Maruti, Hyundai, Tata etc) and consumers are going to be really benefited.
Loving this, really.
VW should plan to increase their sales/service network in India from the present number.

Re: Spied: Volkswagen Up! test mule

"VW has broken its mum and officially confirmed that the UP will premiere in 12 days. The reason why we are interested is because the UP is the small car expected to sit under the Polo. The VW UP will be the cheapest offering from the German czar till date. There are rumors, which some say are more than just rumors, that the UP will be prices in the 3.5-4 lakh price bracket.
Codenamed as the NSF (New small family car), the UP will compete with the Chevrolet Beat, Maruti Wagon R and the Hyundai i10. Since there has been little or no headway made with its alliance partner Suzuki, K Series engines can be ruled out for the near term on the UP."

Official: Sub-Polo Volkswagen UP is coming in 12 days

Cheers!

Re: Spied: Volkswagen Up! test mule

Excellent news, considering I've been thinking about getting a second car home. The more options there are in the small car segment, the better. Bring it on!

Re: Spied: Volkswagen Up! test mule

Volkswagen will be unveiling the Up! for the first time in production guise to the global media on the 21st of August in Paris. The German automaker has started a teaser website (here). The Volkswagen Up! is the first attempt by Volkswagen to make a global car which is cheaper than the Polo. The company plans to launch a saloon version of the Up!, which could rival the Ford Fiesta Classic, Maruti Swift DZire and Toyota Etios. However the Up! will only be launched in India in 2013.

The Volkswagen Up! is expected to be powered by both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol motor could be the same one which does duty on the Polo, however slightly detuned to make it more fuel efficient. The diesel unit will be an all new version 800cc turbocharged motor with two cylinders, producing around 50 BHP of power. Volkswagen has codenamed the Up! as NSF (new small family car) and we expect the car to be priced between Rs. 3-4 lakhs, helping the German automaker in reaching their target of becoming the world’s largest automaker by 2018.

Cheers!

Re: Spied: Volkswagen Up! test mule

"Volkswagen, has enormous plans laid out for this compact hatchback, with an annual production targeting 240,000 vehicles by 2012. Identifying the demand for the small car segment in the Indian car market, the Volkswagen India has come down strongly on this point to prove that they are not behind by any means in the small car manufacturing posing a threat to the ace players in this segment, the Maruti Suzuki India and Ford Motors India.
The Volkswagen Up which is known for its dynamism and pick-up, is equipped with 18 inch wheels. The Volkswagen Up enables seating arrangement for four people, installed with a unique folding seat system to provide room when the situation demands. Volkswagen Up review reveals that the luxurious seats of this hatchback are made to extend comfort to the passengers with inflatable seats that molds to the body shape as and when the occupant sinks down into the plush interiors.
The Volkswagen Up specifications reveal that it is likely to house a 1.2 litre petrol engine producing a maximum power output of 72 bhp, equipped with a five speed manual transmission gearbox. It is also rumored that the Volkswagen has plans to launch this compact hatchback in France before making its debut in India. Volkswagen Up price is going to be the key point behind the success of this hatchback in India."
