Atleast in India - FIAT had beautiful, simple and elegant design cars (I wouldn't exactly count Uno in the list - but it was atleast a design that wouldn't evoke strong reactions from anyone)

Not a fan of the styling at all. To me it looks a little confused... a car with an identity crisis, so to speak.

It looks like the spawn of a threeway between a Multipla, a Fabia, and a Panda.

Welllll I actually loved the 5 door version the way they have it here. I guess the present 500 also continues as it is for those who what that look. So the double barrel Lights should not be that much of a worry. I feel they could have all this the 600 or 800 rather than dilute the 500 brand equity. But irrespective seems am the odd man who loves this look as well.

I like this one. But Fiat should have named it a Panda variant instead of the 500. This one is closer to the Panda than the 500.

Top Gear says this 'MPV' comfortably eclipses the Fiat Panda as well as the the Punto Evo in size. But the design masks the bulk well.

I've heard of the Fiat Multipla, which I think is popular because it has three seats in front, with the gear mounted on the dashboard? It's the only car I know of other than the HM Ambassador with 3 seats in front.

No i dont think so, it is from 2003 onward panda. so we can say mini is the copy from panda.

The basic styling cue is similar, but I'm referring to the entire glass-house of the two cars here, including the roof and everything. The similarities are uncanny actually.

The Fiat 500L is a five-door mini MPV based on the design of Fiat 500 and was codenamed Fiat L0 (or Ellezero) during development and was initially scheduled to be launched in 2011 but was delayed until the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

It is scheduled to be on sale in Europe towards the end of 2012 (United Kingdom April 2013), and in the United States in 2013. Altogether its going to be for sale over 100 countries.

Model details

The L stands for Large, and the 500L is 4,140 mm (163.0 in) long, 1,780 mm (70.1 in) wide and 1,660 mm (65.4 in) high, a significant 594 mm (23.4 in) longer as well as a little wider and taller than the Fiat 500 and slightly larger than the Fiat Idea. The car is built on the US wide version of the GM Fiat Small platform.

At launch it will be available with a choice of two petrol and one diesel engines: a 1.4-litre 95 PS (70 kW; 94 hp) four-cylinder and a TwinAir with 105 PS (77 kW; 104 hp) featuring six-speed gearboxes; and a 85 PS 1.3-litre turbo-diesel with a five-speed gearbox. A 1.6-litre diesel will be launched later.

The 500L will be manufactured at Fiat’s Kragujevac plant in Serbia, previously the Zastava Automobiles factory, though it was initially intended to by manufactured at the Italian Mirafiori plant in Turin but poor labour relations resulted in the manufacturing to leave Italy.

While the five-seat version has been publicly announced (also known by its design code 330), it is known that the seven-seat version is also planned,with the project code L1, Elleuno, or design code 334.

My observations:

This almost as large as current Punto.
I was never really happy with the Punto EVO.
In my opinion this is the car that is perfect replacement of the Punto.

But given the price of current 500 in India, if they are going to price 500L in same league then guys please give India a skip. No need to go through motions.

Absolutely right. If they want to bring it into India and push it down our throats at 20 lacs or so, like they tried with the 500, then they might as well give it a miss.

I hate the fact that I have to pay such a high price for a basic common man's runabout. The Mini, the 500 and the Beetle have all become deranged the moment they decided to enter India.

However iconic these cars may be and however desirable or aspirational, paying such a high price is not a practical proposition.

I dont think FIAT is planning to get this car to India yet, atleast not before end of 2013. If at all they decide to bring it, where will they price this one?
