It looks gorgeous! Enough ground clearance for off-roading and beautifully crafted for urban driving. I just did some search online and looks like the engine specs are pretty similar to CLA and CLA AMG version. Not sure if those are the final specs.

After seeing those camo shots, thanks for which by the way, I cannot say I like this car anymore. It does indeed look like an A class with increased ride height rather than a proper SUV as it did in the concept.

Mercedes Benz is developing an entry level crossover dubbed the GLA. Based on the Modular Front Architecture (MFA), the 2014 Mercedes Benz GLA crossover will share much of its underpinnings with the A-Class sports hatchback and this includes the range of petrol and diesel engines on offer. The Mercedes Benz GLA was showcased in concept guise, earlier this year, at the Shanghai Motor Show.



The official debut of the production version of the GLA will happen at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The Mercedes Benz GLA crossover will take on the likes of the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3. The crossover features dimensions that are similar to the A-Class hatchback, while the key differences lie in the styling that is more butch, and in the higher ground clearance.



According to AutoExpress, the GLA crossover will go on sale internationally in early 2014. The GLA crossover's international sale time frame holds some significance in the Indian car market's perspective as Mercedes Benz India does have plans of launching this car here. The GLA is expected to come with a sub-30 lakh rupee price tag in India, with an Indian launch slated to happen sometime in late 2014.



The crossover sold in India could be made available with a 2 liter turbo petrol engine and a 2.2 liter turbo diesel engine, both motors already found on the A-Class sports hatchback. However, since the GLA crossover will compete with the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1, cars that feature more powerful turbo diesel engines, expect the 2.2 liter turbo diesel motor of the GLA to be tuned for a higher power and torque output.

The 2.2 liter turbo diesel engine that Mercedes Benz uses in a range of cars, from the A-Class and B-Class entry level models, to the likes of the C-Class, ML-Class and E-Class models, comes in a range of tunes. So, Mercedes Benz does have the flexibility to tune this engine for a higher output in the GLA Crossover.



The seven speed dual clutch automatic gearbox is expected to transmit power to either the front wheels or all four wheels, depending on the variant chosen, of the GLA crossover. The crossover is likely to share interiors and the feature set with its other MFA siblings such as the A-Class and B-Class models. As Mercedes Benz is looking to assemble the MFA line of cars in India through the CKD kit route from 2014, expect the GLA to also be a part of these plans.

The 2014 Mercedes Benz GLA, an A-Class based crossover, is due for an unveil at a motor show in the coming weeks. Mercedes Benz has already begun teasing images of the GLA Crossover, ahead of its official unveil. The teaser images have hit Mercedes Benz's official Facebook page, an indication that the launch of this crossover is just weeks away. First showcased as a concept at this year's Shanghai Motor Show, the GLA Crossover's production version could be unveiled in September, at the Frankfurt Motor Show.



The crossover is the latest car based on Mercedes Benz Modular Front Architecture (MFA) and is India-bound in late 2014/early 2015. The GLA is said to share most of its underpinnings with the A-Class hatchback, save for its design. Both front wheel drive and all wheel drive models of the GLA will be made available, depending on the market that this crossover will be sold in. Rivals to the GLA Crossover include the likes of the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3.

The GLA Crossover is expected to be priced and positioned higher than the A-Class hatchback. Armed with a higher ground clearance to justify its crossover tag, the GLA is expected to dig into the A-Class's parts bin for engines and transmissions. So, turbo petrol and turbo diesel engines will make their way into the GLA engine bay, while the 7 speed dual clutch automatic gearbox will be the standard transmission option on the higher variants.

Mercedes Benz India, on the back of strong sales coming from its entry level luxury cars such as the A-Class and B-Class models, has managed to top Audi and BMW, in that order, in terms of July 2013 sales. Now that Mercedes Benz has managed to claw back market share in the Indian car market, launches such as the CLA sedan (due in 2014) and the GLA crossover could serve to keep the sales momentum going.

The design elements used on the front bumper in the concept vehicle as well as the sketches gave some iota of character to the GLA. Now this production version just looks like a glorified A Class, failing to hide it's roots.
