BMW has begun testing the new 7 series (Chassis code G11)

The G11 will represent the first mainstream BMW model to feature carbon fiber as a key material (after the niche i3 and i8 models).

The new generation will be around 200 kilograms lighter.

The design seems to connect the headlight into the grille (like seen in the F30 & F15's)

2016 7 Series will come in both standard and long wheel base Li/Ld models, with the usual petrol and diesel engines. There may also be a new V12 hybrid model introduced.

The G11 is likely to spawn the first 7 Series M Performance model, possibly badged as the "M770i xDrive"

Aha.. so carbon fibre finally makes an appearance on mass production road cars. The 7 looks solid and handsome in the render. What a sea of change from the Bangle era!

If the rendered image in the first post is a close indicator of the final product then I can't say I will be a fan of this, the future Generation 7 series.
The carbon fibre and 200Kg. fat loss is impressive but then which modern luxo barge hasn't loss weight over its predecessor, the latest Range Rover being a good example although due to Aluminium than CF, I await the gadgets and gizmos list.

So far this car seems 'meh' in comparison to the outstanding S-Class.

Usually the renders by Autobild are very close to the real deal so we can expect > 90% of the design to remain close to render.

But still this car is atleast 1.5 years away from reveal & im sure BMW would have had enough time to benchmark & better the W222 S Class.

While Benz has it's lesser models follow the cues from the S-class, it seems BMW is taking the opposite tack, taking the 3-er front end and blowing it up. What they should do, is accommodate a retro E38 styling into their big barges to make them look elegant once more.

The last 2 gens (E65, F01) have been fat porkers and no match to the S. In this segment, Audi steals the customer that wants understated executive limo and Benz gets those that want the flash and ultra-high tech. Since Tesla is now outselling all 3 in California in this segment, with the eco-conscious, I'm wondering who BMW are targeting.

It will form basis for both 7 and 9 series. Both of them having same platform, 9 series being longer and more premium.
