Update: tesla model 3 receives 325000 orders in one week. About 46k a day. Not bad for a car which is more than a year away from delivery ain't it!

re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

My best friend has booked his Tesla M-3 in UK by paying 1000 GBP.
The delivery has been promised towards late 2017-early 2018. And starting next year Tesla will start inviting people who have reserved the car to accept any configuration requests

If this duty structure is true(which it is for now) and Tesla decides to keep the same margins for itself as in other markets, the base Model 3 can undercut the A4, 3 & C base models by 7-10 lac. If you use this difference to kit up your Model 3, you should be able to get an immensely more fun and loaded car compared to any of the 3 aforementioned cars.

The base price of $35000( + 10% import duty on CKD) is closer to the top spec Skoda Octavia than it is to the A4, 3 & C.

What you are leaving aside, is the cost of an assembly line, in case of a ckd, and costs of setting up service in India. Dont expect the car to undercut the C/3/A4.

Please add up all the costs and still at the end of the day, Tesla would have to pay 10% instead of 60% import duty that Mercedes and Co. pay currently (That is a difference of 10 lac on a car with an import price of 20 lac). This is for a car that is essentially priced at par with the competition in the country where it is produced.

Apart from excessive greed and 'Product Positioning' reasons, there is no financial reason why Model 3 should cost the same as a C/3/A4.

Mercedes and Co. Also have assembly lines in India (and add costs thereof all the same) but Tesla would end up saving over 10 lac/car in just import duties!

re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

3,25,000 units of Tesla Model 3 has been pre - ordered by customers from all over the world in just about a week!
Deliveries to commence from late - 2017.
Quote:
Tesla Motors has announced that it has received 3,25,000 pre-orders for the Tesla Model 3 within just a week from the date pre-orders commenced. For those still not getting how big that number is for an EV or any given passenger car for that matter, which is just a week old, the company has received US$14 billion worth of pre-orders for the Tesla Model 3.
Tesla Motors claims that this is “the single-biggest one-week launch of any product ever,” and there’s no doubt about that. The company hasn’t even advertised the Model 3 or paid for any endorsements for it, it’s all achieved from customer driven interest. Pre-ordering the Tesla Model 3 on the premiere day was just insane, as lines went on for blocks and the rush for pre-orders was overwhelming. As a gesture of thanks, Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk has said that all those who lined up will receive some gifts which will include a scale model of the Tesla Model 3 “and a few other things”.The Tesla Model 3 will be available in single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD models, with prices starting at US$35,000 in the U.S. market. The base model will have single-motor RWD configuration, will be capable of clocking 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in under six seconds and have a driving range of 215 miles (346 km). The youngest Tesla is now available to pre-order globally and will reach its customers starting late-2017.

re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

Tesla Model S is the best selling large luxury car ($70,000+) in the US in 2015.

The Tesla Model 3, a ,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin-tesla.jpg

While all other car sales declined YoY, Tesla Model S is the only car to grow in sales. If you check the overall sales, there is no growth in the industry, but Tesla is taking sales from all other established car makers.

It's even more impressive, when you consider the fact that Tesla started selling cars from 2008 and Model S is the only 2nd car from them .

If the Model 3 reservations are anything to go by, Model 3 will do same for the likes of BMW 3 series, Audi A3/A4, Mercedes C class in many countries.

That's a knockout price for a car that is on the cutting edge of technology and going by driving experience of model s owners, an absolute pleasure to drive. I, for one, am saving up to but a Tesla, whenever they come to India with a reliable charging network. Will help way away some of the sins of being a jetta owner!

Most major companies are eyeing the public reaction to Tesla Model 3 and not surprising Fiat Chrysler Automobile CEO Sergio Marchionne has taken notice -FCA will copy the Tesla Model 3 if it's profitable.

Quote:
the outspoken executive said he wasn't surprised by the high number of reservations but noted now comes the hard part as Tesla has to "build and deliver them and also be profitable."
Quote:
he said if Tesla CEO Elon Musk "can show me that the car will be profitable at that price, I will copy the formula
