Dude, It is not the country they are against. But they under estimate the country itself. If the companies are not doing that then where are the Lancer EVO models in INDIA?? until the entry of cedia we had only the old lancer mirage(called in US) models. Do you think these cars if released will not get sold in INDIA??? First place we are not given options for it. Only then anyone can answer whether we are ready or not. I accept qualis was liked by many people. Its because we got it we love it. My question is why we didnt get better ones.. its not against qualis

Toyota to sell both old, new Corolla in China

Toyota Motor Corp. will continue to sell the type of Corolla small sedan it currently sells in China even after it releases a newer model there this summer
, the Asahi Shimbun reports.

It would be the first time for Toyota to simultaneously sell new and old models of the same car anywhere in the world
, the report said

The phrase used to be "to do a Maruti" (They were the experts in selling simultaneous generations together)

How fast things are changing...

I heard, from some of my friends associated with TKM, that an all new Corolla(known as mini Camry in international markets) is going to be launched here in April this year. They said that Corolla's sales dropped by almost 30% in India after the lunch of Civic, so people at TKM are very desperate to bring this new Corolla to Indian market soon to put a check on Civic's success.

Toyota corolla dead- think again

Lots of folks announced the death knell for the corolla but heres,

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has posted a record breaking performance in March 2007, crossing sales of 1083 units.

The toyota corolla has made a comeback big time, toyota advertising surely is working.

I'm sure most of these sales are to fleet operators and hotels. I've seen lots of new Corolla's with yellow plates. I also heard that Toyota offer fantastic deals if you buy XX number of cars from them.

From the link:
Quote:
TKM sold 1,083 units of the Corolla, 5,411 units of the Innova, and 197 units of the imported vehicles Camry and Prado Land cruiser.

TKM said there are no plans to launch a new Corolla in India this year. The Corolla is expected to sell 8,000 units this year in India
Majority of their sales are still from the Innova. Looks like the public have finally accepted its looks. Was good in all other respects.

Not launching a new Corolla is a gamble. I am guessing most of the Corolla sales should be from the stripped down version, or the Executive.

Well, they recently launched a cut-price version of the Corolla. And I am informed that there are further dealership discounts available too.

Its my personal opinion that Corolla should not be selling cars at the lower segment level. Corolla is associated with a certain quality that most car companies aspire for. Selling it at 8 lakhs with a "Cassette Player" doesn't sound too good.

Good thing though is because of this undercutting into the lower segments people who could not afford a Corolla can buy one.

Would it put off the higher segment buyers of the Corolla?

To put it into perspective ..
Feb ACI numbers - Civic approx 1100, Corolla approx 400 (around that - can't recall exactly)

March numbers for Civic (read in another thread) - 2200 ish or more ..

It's probably the March effect. April numbers might paint a different picture.
