The 2018 Hyundai Kona - now unveiled

2018 Hyundai Kona SUV teased - Nissan Juke rival. To be revealed in June ahead of going on sale in October.

The Kona will sit below the Tucson in the Korean manufacturer’s local line-up, going toe-to-toe with rivals like the Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V and Toyota C-HR.

Quote:
The teaser image (top) previews the upper part of the Kona’s two-tier headlight design – similar to the look worn by numerous Citroen models – a feature noticed on spy photos of pre-production versions of the company’s smallest SUV.

Hyundai claims the Kona will offer best-in-class interior space, and has been developed with a focus on driving dynamics and looks to set new performance standards for the segment.

Hyundai's Kona caught on video on the Nurburgring circuit, believed to debut either this summer, or a few months later, at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Guys - Presenting the very first pics of Hyundai Kona. In Europe Kona will rival Renault's Captur.

The Kona was captured on a promotional shoot in Lisbon -Portugal.

Eye catching, but certainly will polarize opinions when it comes to the looks department. Not a bad thing, as Hyundai cars were all starting to look the same these days!

Looks small in terms of dimensions though! Reminds me of the Honda WRV.

Re: On Hyundai's all-new Compact SUV

This Kona although Nice, does remind us of some cars from some angles.

For example, from side (Windows & Crease Line) it reminds us of Volkswagen Cross Polo. Rear is mix of i20 & a bit of Kia Soul. While the front is inspired from this, the Jeep Cherokee.

Surely a good product (At least exterior look & proportion wise), but if if launches here, where will it be positioned is a big question. Maybe a Replacement of i20 Active ?

A mix of Renault's Captur and Toyota'S C-HR, in exterior design.

It is a segment above Creta and as such will fall in the XUV territory similar to
Renault's Kaptur when released here.

As such Hyundai has no plans of launching this in India, but looking at a smaller CUV to take on Vitara Brezza/ EcoSport.

That looks ugly, especially front and rear wheel arch cladding design that joins with lamp claddings. Design theme screams DC, did they hire him to make this?. Juke looks like a beauty queen in front of this contraption.

Re: On Hyundai's all-new Compact SUV

It looks funky. I guess Hyundai became aware that their recent designs commissioned by Peter Schreyer were getting toned down a bit too much (especially compared to cars with the original "Fluidic" styling) and asked him to churn out something different. So he took the new i30, put in a modified "top hat" with a raised suspension, and we get the Kona.

I guess the Kona won't come to India. The Creta's higher variants occupy the space meant for Kona. Which means it will have to squeeze in between the Creta & Tucson, or in other words, be positioned in the same price range as the Elantra. With sedans steadily falling out of favour in the D segment, it may actually make sense to offer the Kona & Elantra for the same price and let the customer choose whatever he/she wants (Kona & Elantra AD share the same platform after all).

Knowing Hyundai, they're not going to do it. Their talk of giving more importance to more profitable models remains mere talk, and is not accompanied by action. How else does one explain the sheer stupidity with which they decided the variants & (safety) features for the Elantra, Tucson and Santa Fe?

The Indian market will get the Carlino instead, and it'll be positioned below the Creta. Given the slow pace of development of the Carlino, we may even get to see the Stonic from Kia before that. Stonic is now being tested internationally, but there hasn't even been a single spotting of a camouflaged Carlino so far.

Re: On Hyundai's all-new Compact SUV

You still have time, Hyundai.

Trim the wheel arch cladding to make it proportionate with the plastic cladding all around and chop off those ugly bits of plastic that connects those wheel arches and the light surrounds, front and rear. That's all that is needed to make the Kona a good-looking yet funky crossover.

Will you do it, please?

Re: On Hyundai's all-new Compact SUV

Possibly one of the only cars from Hyundai's recent offerings, to not get a positive opinion about the way it looks. Ever since the previous Verna was unveiled, almost every new car that joined the Hyundai stable had that 'wow' factor. The Kona, however evokes an 'Erm' from most, judging by the comments online.

Based on the i20... So is there a chance of this making to India? or are they happy with the market share the i20 Active has?

Re: On Hyundai's all-new Compact SUV

So, Autocar India said Kona won't make it to India, and is destined only for "developed markets".

While financial express is saying Kona will be launched by the end of the year.
