Next-gen Ford EcoSport coming in 2021

Third generation arrives in 2021( Brazil) with larger interior space, crossover look and Mustang-inspired design.

The car that created the segment of compact SUVs in 2003 has not been able to keep up with its peers for a few years. That's why the third generation of EcoSport will be so different from the past.
It is treated as a BX755 project and is expected to hit stores by the end of 2021, already as a model 2022.

Test mules have been already spotted in Brazil with Ka as the donor, higher ground clearance and wider gauges, but this does not indicate platform sharing.

Quote:
The BX755 will only use the same body support points on the assembly line at the Camaçari (BA) plant to avoid retrofitting costs. Almost no parts will be shared with Ka or the current EcoSport
Quote:
the new EcoSport will be almost unrecognizable to make up for lost time
Quote:
it will be more crossover and less SUV, and will not be as tall as today's car
Quote:
It will look shorter and more muscular, reminiscent of the Mach-E at the rear and the ceiling trim,
Quote:
The new wheelbase will not be far from 2.60 m, which would already represent a considerable gain over the current 2.52 m
Quote:
The design will integrate elements of various branded SUVs. The most aggressive front with a V-beehive grille and headlights aligned with its top even resembles the T-Cross, but its true inspiration is Explorer.

The side replaces striking creases with more organic shapes, something that also helps to highlight the wide rear fenders. The door handles will be the same as the new European Fiesta.
Quote:
the trunk will grow from 400 liters for the first time (today there are 356).
Quote:
an effort to make the rear impact: the Mustang-inspired taillights are intertwined with a black plastic strip where the car's name will be. Opening the rear cover upwards is unheard of.
Quote:
The new panel will preserve the soft touch finish. It will still have digital instrument panel and the new Sync4 multimedia center, with artificial intelligence. Also staying is the 1.5-liter three-cylinder aspirated Ti-VCT engine, which now has 137 hp.

Mustang-inspired design
While it looks good overall, I disagree with the inspiration part. This looks more like the previous iteration of the Kia Sportage now.

Re: Next-gen Ford EcoSport coming in 2021

A most important product, considering the EcoSport is still the best Compact SUV IMHO, despite being the oldest. It is also a rare Ford that:

1. Customers have demand for, after 7 years!

2. The company has managed to sell for 7 years. Usually, Ford's launches run out of breath after 3 - 4 years in the market.

Looking forward . Two major areas of improvement should be cabin space & ride quality. But don't lose the solid build, nice dynamics & superb engines.

I hope the end product doesn't look like the images above; that's more hatchback than SUV (which is anyway a thin line these days!).

Re: Next-gen Ford EcoSport coming in 2021

Looks a bit too generic from the front. It is not immediately recognizable as a Ford. On the positive side, it is lot less polarizing and looks proportional.

Re: Next-gen Ford EcoSport coming in 2021

Looks good! The current EcoSport has one of the better overall dimensions and at least looks the part of a CSUV; making it shorter takes away some of that appeal. If the exact same design comes to India, wonder what's the deal with the spare tyre; will they have to find a way to fit it in a wheel well (with a smaller size) or will the length be >4m.

The front design seems to have been borrowed from the previous gen Ford Edge Next-gen Ford EcoSport coming in 2021-2017_ford_edge_4drsuv_sport_fq_oem_1_1280.jpg

Re: Next-gen Ford EcoSport coming in 2021

I actually like the new design. Looks less radical than the current generation, but is quite proportional and pleasing to the eyes. Looks grown up. Maybe, they can find a way to integrate the spare wheel onto the tailgate as that is what characterises the Ecosport and differentiates it from the others in the segment.

I believe they meant to shrink the 2020 Explorer's face here, which is quite a handsome looking crossover.

Re: Next-gen Ford EcoSport coming in 2021

This is disappointing, they should have atleast based it on the PUMA crossover.

Considering the expectation of fan base Ecosport has, this will not satisfy them

Re: Next-gen Ford EcoSport coming in 2021

This can be an entirely new model, but can't replace EcoSport at any cost. The styling that defined the EcoSport is different from the current crop of cross-overs. Even their real SUV Endeavour is less "SUV"ish than EcoSport in appearance.

Ford, please maintain the SUV looks. We've enough of those cross-overs.

Re: Next-gen Ford EcoSport coming in 2021

If they bring it here it will fail because we want cars that look like SUVs. Comparison of brezza and s cross sales numbers confirm that.

Re: Next-gen Ford EcoSport coming in 2021

Ford first made a ridiculous decision by killing of it's great sedan and hatchback offerings it's home market, now it prepares to make another one: giving the EcoSport crossover looks.

Dear Ford, the primary reason that this car is successful because it has great SUV looks. By eliminating this, you have made it devoid of the one thing that made it unique in the compact 'SUV' market. Hopefully you don't make it dull to drive also. This scaled down Ford Explorer look doesn't work well on the front at all. The rear looks okay, but in my eyes, the current gen iteration looks more modern.

Re: Next-gen Ford EcoSport coming in 2021

After owning the Ecosport for 7 years and driving a lakh km, the following would be my wishlist from the next-gen.
  • A softer ride
  • Better interiors
  • Thinner A-pillars

It's still the best car in terms of handling and I hope they retain it.
However, with the new JV, I doubt if the Ford DNA remains intact.

The Edge looks really handsome here and I see how the new EcoSport has taken inspiration from it but the EcoSport's front end looks quite weird to me. The way the headlamps blend into the grille feels like a disfigured curve, as opposed to the smoother integration on the Edge.

The front end reminded me of the first-gen Mahindra e2O. Link

Absolutely love the rear though.
