2021 Kia Carnival interior officially revealed.

The spacious and futuristic interior design is based on the ‘Spatial Talents’ interior design concept. The dash itself looks similar to the latest Sorento. Both the 12.3-inch digital driver’s instrument panel and the 12.3-inch infotainment screen are linked by one single glass panel.

Kia has also confirmed that there will be 7, 9, and 11-seater variants for the 2021 Carnival. This is thanks to a longer wheelbase, longer rear overhang, and a wider body. The overall length of this Grand Utility Vehicle is also increased by 40 mm to 5,155 mm which results in more space for the third row and best-in-class luggage space.

IMO, the interiors look properly luxurious. I would even stick my neck out and say that it looks more comfortable than any vehicle this side of the E-Class and the Volvo S90. A very tasteful combination of colours, trims and finishes (such as the matte wood used on the dashboard). The refrigerator in the front centre console is a neat touch too.

Combined with the SUV-ish proportions and form, I think this could also attract people who usually buy full-size SUVs with the goal of using it primarily in the urban environment. A lot would definitely depend on how Kia is able to price it. A price rise would be imperative with a new, more luxurious model but a significant rise may end up shooing people away.

I think it would actually be very interesting to analyse who the average customer group for the Carnival Limousine is. If it is a person who uses the 7 seats on a regular basis, there is little else that can directly compete with this package. But I think there would be plenty of people who primarily buy it just for the fantastic middle-row experience and barely ever need the third row.

If the latter is indeed the case, I wonder if an SUV with a four-seater lounge-type layout could be successful in the market instead. Think of something like a Fortuner (or even a Crysta) with a Volvo XC90 Excellence Lounge-esque interior. Could be a quick and cheap way for Toyota to claw back the marginal lost ground (you know, if Toyota actually tried to make a serious effort for the Indian market for a change).

The interiors seem a great upgrade to the existing model. I didn't like the exterior (personal opinion) of the 4th Generation Carnival but the interior has madeup for it. The S Classish Speedo and the seats look great and from a segment above. Kia have tried to create a more luxurious feel. But I hope Kia doesn't get greedy and price the 4th generation into the 3 series range.

The technology for the getting off passenger is also the biggest advantage of the new carnival.

Power sliding door interlocking safety drop-off assistance applied to the new carnival helps prevent accidents by keeping the power sliding door locked and alerting the vehicle when a vehicle approaches from the rear when a rear passenger tries to get off.

In addition, spotlights that illuminate the bottom of the sliding door opening section were applied for the first time in their class to enhance convenience.

The getting on and off spot lamp illuminates the floor of the getting on and off space in a dark situation where the floor is hard to see, helping passengers to get on and off safely.

2021 Kia Carnival has been officially revealed in Korea.



In Korea, the new Carnival will be sold with a 2.2-liter Smartsteam diesel with 199 hp and 440 Nm, a 3.5-liter MPi petrol engine with 268 hp and 332 Nm, and a 3.5-liter GDi V6 with 290 hp and 355 Nm. All engines are paired as standard with eight-speed automatic transmissions.

I am sure Kia will bring this to India. They in fact missed a trick by not global launching it here like they did with the Seltos.

The current gen itself is quite a step up to the Innova and by the time they bring the new Carnival here it will be the ideal upgrade for families who have the current gen Crysta. Kia should pull off a Hyundai in terms of reliability (which should be the case since they share mechanicals. CSAT is equally important and they should not milk customers like how VAG does with their "supposedly premium" Skoda brand here. Kia should play the value card like Hyundai and stick to their roots which worked in the EU and US.

Loving its looks! Kia has done a great job with the overall exterior and the Skoda-like grille looks nice. I find the rear to be a cuter version of the Hexa's. Anyone else?

Coming to its interiors, the dash looks good, especially the centre AC vents. I'm not a fan of the "my touchscreen is bigger than yours" trend though; glad they retained proper physical buttons for the climate control. The seats look supremely comfy as usual

I think they will (deliberately) keep this generation away from Indian market for at least 18 months to gain maximum reach and profit from the current (investment) one.

Initial impressions:

1. Quite the looker inside-out - has a very premium air about it. This should punch way above its weight in this avatar and could even lure away buyers from the likes of the T-Fort/Endeavour/Kodiaq and the Superb/Camry.
2. Has grown even further in length! It would take to the Mumbai streets like a full-grown elephant to a kiddy-pool.
3. I don't think the ADAS systems would make it to India. Our traffic would have the system stymied anyway.
4. Cooled second-row seats! Yes, please.
5. Consider bringing in a petrol variant as well, Kia. Buyers in this segment may be looking to keep a vehicle for longer and gasoline seems to be the only future-proof choice.
6. Unfortunately, all of this would definitely push the price up by a very significant bit. I don't see the Limousine variant coming in below ~42L, at which point, it would have a lot of fighting to do.
