4th-gen Kia Carnival teased; To go on sale in Q3 2020

Kia Motors Corporation has released a teaser image of the upcoming Carnival. The 4th-gen minivan is expected to go on sale in Korea in the third quarter of 2020, followed by a launch in other global markets.

The image reveals a much sharper appearance of the Carnival. The front gets a tiger nose grille and sleeker headlamps. A prominent character line runs along the sides, all the way from the headlight to the tail lights. A chrome element is said to accompany the glass area and it extends into the rear.

The Kia Carnival is also sold as the Sedona in some markets. In India, the 3rd-gen car was launched earlier this year and is on sale with prices starting from Rs. 24.95 lakh. It is powered by a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine rated at 197 BHP & 440 Nm. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Full details of the 4th-gen Carnival are expected to be released shortly.

This is how it looks when the image is brightened up a little.
Basically looks like a sharper and tighter version of the current car.

Re: 4th-gen Kia Carnival teased; To go on sale in Q3 2020

Had been to the Kia showroom yesterday to test drive the Seltos, and while waiting saw the Carnival and hopped in. It looked old school bulky from the outside and the exterior design reminded me of a bygone era, and I wasn’t in any way interested in it, UNTILL till I got in. It was palatial. The materials, use of different textures, and comfy seats reeked of a certain opulence.

They should really bring this new model to India, coz of it had the exterior to match the heavenly interior comfort, it would do good number without doubt.

Wow. That front looks heavily inspired by the Seltos, which is great. It seems to be the design direction they'll be taking for all future models. I'm digging it

Re: 4th-gen Kia Carnival teased; To go on sale in Q3 2020

To me, it looks like teaser pic of next-gen Skoda Kodiaq. Because the current gen Kodiaq looks like this:

I think Kia designers have gone for SUV look (flattish long bonnet, instead of short sloping bonnet) to broaden Carnival's appeal.

Exactly my thought! Sure looks like a more van version of the Kodiaq (than the Kodiaq already is).

I'm a big fan of the current Carnival and am sure Kia will dial things up a notch with the new generation. The company has overall really matured in the last 5 years and its depth of engineering shows.

This news will impact sales of the 2020 Carnival in India. We'd commented on similar lines in the Official Review:

Kia just recently released the first teaser image of the next-gen Carnival and now new spy shots offer the most detailed look yet at its interior.

Re: 4th-gen Kia Carnival teased; To go on sale in Q3 2020

The new one looks promising. Surprisingly KIA didn't wait to launch this one in India and launched the older model. Now having made investments in the old one for India, i doubt that the new one will be launched in India for at least 3 years.
Also given the current state of affairs (COVID), any chances that there may have been have also been put to rest IMHO.

I don't think Hyundai & KIA follow a 5 year lifecycle for this model, so it may be around for 7-8 years and if they launch it in India in 2023, it could still be worth the effort for them

To maintain "momentum" for the brand and further position Kia as a premium brand (it's a bargain-basement brand worldwide).

The Carnival has very low levels of localisation in India. Think of it as a CKD, so the investments aren't too much.

Kia cannot continue selling the old Carnival as it won't be able to source kits from its international operations (once the new gen launches).

Can go either way, they can shift complete line from Korea, mostly press shop and continue production of old. No one except management of Kia will know about the plans.

Re: 4th-gen Kia Carnival teased; To go on sale in Q3 2020

Somewhere I read that the next gen Carnival will have a 4WD option. If they bring that variant, it can be a credible alternative to Fortuner or Endy (more comfortable, spacious and hence more practical)

I doubt they will bring the 4WD option to India. It will only end up unnecessarily jacking the price by a couple of lakhs without translating into much real world advantage or use. Plus, those looking for a butch SUV (Fortuner & Endy) would still purchase those. For sure they wouldn't settle for a Van just because it falls in the same price bracket & powers all wheels.

In this country, a very small % of people opt for AWD/4WD alternatives. Top priorities generally being road presence, features, VFM, fit & finish & overall looks. There are several 'more worthy' vehicles that could do well with an AWD/4WD option - Harrier, Creta/Seltos, S-cross, XUV300, yet they still don't get one.
Even Maruti isn't interested much in getting a 4WD steed from its stable (read Jimny) to India. I am pretty positive that whenever they decide to launch the Grand Vitara, it'll be the 2WD version.

AWD/4WD remains & will remain to be a 'hyper luxury feature' than anything else. Thus minuscule sales, leading to negligible interest (business sense) for manufacturers.

Kia has stretched the wheelbase of the vehicle and the added length is particularly visible when the ‘Grand Utility Vehicle’ is viewed from side-on. Also visible is a so-called ‘island roof’ design with blacked-out A- and B-pillars as well as a body-colored roof.

Viewed from the rear, the most striking new part are sleek taillights connected by a full-width LED light bar. Situated just above this light bar is a chrome accent that wraps around the base of the rear window and the rear side windows. Finishing off the rear-end design is a metallic skid plate

Powertrain details remain under wrap but is expected to get the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 277 hp and 310 lb-ft (421 Nm) of torque could be one of the available powertrains. Additionally, a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor and a 1.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack producing a total of 227 hp and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) is also expected
