Hope 6 airbags comes as standard for India too unlike the current Carnival here which has only 2 airbags in the entry and mid variant. At an assumed price of 15 lakhs, Sonet may well get 6 airbags and you get just 2 in Carnival after one coughs up 30 lakhs plus

So much for milking Indian car buyers and give a damn for their safety even in premium segments.

Boy! Does this look special or what especially in that Steel Grey or Silver shade. Never has a MUV or van evoked such an emotion from me as they are rarely designed to look good and form is given priority over function. This however appeals to the heart and the head.

The interiors also look like a huge step up from the current generation especially the driver console and entertainment system.

I think KIA missed a trick by not getting this one to India directly. A lot of current owners would be livid by seeing these pictures and KIA may be in a bit of a dilemma as this may severely impact sales of the current one on sale.

As a Crysta owner this is a logical upgrade for someone not needing offroad ability. The only issue I see is the ground clearance given the long wheelbase will ensure this scrapes a lot and that is something which will need some vetting before anyone puts money down.

KIA has another winner as and when this comes and frankly this car doesn't have any real competition as comparing this to the Crysta is probably not fair.

Must say, they did some smart work on features. My fav pick of features is the utility drawer in the back, and smart closing boot, and the auto opening rear slide show doors.

That is a sheer overload of features and it will definitely make potential buyers jaw drop including the looks.

But price will certainly be 30 lakh plus.

I am getting a hunch only the lowest powered 197 bhp diesel engine will come to India to alievate the mileage sensation of Indian cab market and the tax brackets reasonable which depends on engine size.

May be they will get a downsized petrol too.

Any changes to the GC? Doesn't seem to be any difference. Poor clearance is a big con for many, Honda even had to demonstrate how the new Civic doesn't scrap over speed breakers just to change their car's perception.

I see two major practical issues in the Carnival.

1. For such a long vehicle, it would have been good if it had been a Real-Wheel-Drive (like the Innova). Sadly the Carnival is Front wheel Drive and not much can be done about this by Kia. Such long vehicles need to be driven by the rear wheels for better traction.

2. The current Carnival has an unladen ground clearance of 180 mm. This is very insufficient for Indian conditions. With full load, the MPV's ground clearance will be further reduced and this will scrape almost all spead-humps in India and make it impractical as a touring vehicle.

Kia can definitely raise the suspension significantly for India bound new model and at the same time firm up the suspension. This will make it a practical touring vehicle for Indian conditions and will greatly reduce chances of its long wheel base scraping the bottom on our bad roads.

If Kia Motors can atleast raise the ground clearance for the Indian market, they have a winner.

Also the powered doors seem frustratingly slow and inconvenient. Its better to give a simple sliding door instead of these powered gizmo doors.
Same applies to the powered tail gate that we are seeing in most vehicles these days.
A simple hydraulic manual rear tail gate is a much more convenient and faster option rather then a powered one. Powered doors and Tail-Gates are irritating and unnecessary add-ons.

You never pay full driveaway prices in Australia. Bringing them down by 5-10% is not very difficult. I have even seen 20% if the dealer has extra stock and the model is slow selling.
