The most rebadged cars in the world

Re-badging cars is nothing new to Indian customers. Famously, Renault and Nissan sold the Duster in the country under different names, and Volkswagen and Skoda sold the Vento in the country under different names. Most enthusiasts also know that the MG Hector sold in India is nothing but the Baojun 530, which is sold under different brand names the world over.

I recently did a research on the vehicles active on Uber platform globally. I was amazed to see the extent of badge engineered products. I always thought it is a rather new phenomenon.

Interesting thread! Rebadging within the group brands is quite a good strategy to keep the development cost and time at check and yet benefit from the same platform. PSA is a very good example of that considering Citroen, Peugeot, Opel and Vauxhall are group companies and they follow this strategy even now but keeping their own design identity.

But it gets really interesting when there is cross company badging like the MS-Toyota, Renault-Nissan and Ford-Mahindra.

Here's an unusual one, the Tata Winger!
Launched back in 2007, the Winger is/was basically a rebadged 1st gen Renault Trafic. The 2021 Winger is still on its 1980 roots!

A famous badge engineered car is the Walter White Pontiac Aztek, it was rebadged as the Buick Rendezvous

The bigger surprise are those Toyota-PSA and Toyota-GM rebadges. Any back story for those?
